data usage policy on RAIN

Trololol. Can atleast give them more money but keep biting the hand that feeds you.

lol. so keep 4 sims in the drawer but only use one, because you will feel better.

but still use 1 terabyte of data at the same tower anyway.

Good idea. The speed is shocking. Will just have to get another two sims to maximise downloads. That will show the complainers.

The issue was never about mobile or not. It's about Rain informing people about a cap after the fact when they advertise an uncapped product.
What is the rain cap? Is it a hard cap or a soft one and when is it enforced?

Lol you and your cap, still haven't researched the difference between a cap and throttling?

un - a prefix meaning "not"

throttling is a softcap, uncapped means no cap, soft or hard.

4mbps uncapped translates to 1.2TBpm or some such.

Who has been throttled?

Also, your statement is false. A large number of uncapped products in SA (and globally) have throttling that kick in after certain usage thresholds

ah there is more.

my statement is not false.

a large number of uncapped products are actually soft caps. (soft capped products)

4 megabits per second translates to 1.3392 terabytes per month.

any active interference with the allocated throughput is applying a form of limitation aka softcap or hardcap

2k video on netflix is 6.8GB an hour.
4k I guess is a bit over 10GB an hour.
2x tv's streaming in the house at the same time maybe?
Also likely a gamer...

People still butthurt because this guy is using the internet connection he pays for as advertised?
Not really. I'm just bemused by the mob mentality displayed by some forumites. One guy gets an SMS saying ease up and suddenly we're convinced they've imposed a cap. Serious assumptions being made, and promoted, all over the place

To be fair the mob mentality is exhibited on both sides. There are those who have taken on the internet policing function, and decided that anyone using more than their current monthly usage is "abusing" the service and should be crucified. Even if they have never received the Rain usage warning.

I'm inclined to disagree with your definitions. A contention ratio and some sort of QoS is not the same as a cap.

contention is not a preconfigured limitation that automatically applies upon reaching said limit(cap). aka "rolling thresholds"

if no others are contending, contention must allow full use of your service and not invoke a protocol when usage reaches a limit(cap)

if the link is contended, qos can equalise contended connections. it is reactive. for example, at full use of a link everyone will have at least 50/60/70% bandwidth

what you are alluding to cuts the throughput/bandwidth even though no contention is happening over the link.

this is a cap. it is actively enforced.

you kept asking who was throttled, but im not even aware this was part of the topic.

it started with people complaining about too much usage over a mobile service
