DataSIM: one voice contract and Data SIM Cards that share a Contract Data Bundle

I also tried the SIM trimming thing once and it didn't work out.

I actually trimmed an older PAYG sim this last weekend for the iPhone and it is working properly - that is where I noticed the contacts on the new sim is larger than the older ones - probably did that on purpose to force people to go and buy a microsim.

Hi guys,

I am not sure if this has been answered before, but is it possible for me to get a Multi Data SIM to use only for Blackberry? I would like to use my BB 8520 for my work emails and the odd browsing only, whilst using my primary SIM for my regular phone (SGS2). Not going to use the BB for voice calls at all.

If possible- does the additional charge add up to R9 per month for the SIM and the R59 for BIS?

From their website:

A BlackBerry SIM will only access the data bundle associated with the primary SIM if the internet APN is used. The BlackBerry APN will not consume from the associated data bundle

A Blackberry SIM will be viewed as a Multi Data SIM and therefore counts towards the maximum five SIM cards per Contract.

Two SIM cards with the same number

Can I have two SIM cards with the same number?

I have a Blackberry with a data bundle (so that I can use it as a tethered modem on my Macbook).

I have also just gotten an iPad without a SIM card. I am wanting to use a new micro-SIM card with the same number so that I don't have to have two separate data bundles.

Is this possible?

Vodacom gave me a data sim on the same number ,,,dont know about a micro sim

Two SIM cards with the same number

Thanks FNfal,

I'll go through to a Vodacom store and check with them

So which one should I be looking at the Data Sim, Multi Data or Twin?

I have a blackberry, with a data bundle, and I want to use the same data bundle on an extra sim for my iPad.

I would say data sim ..cost me R90 once off and R11 per month just for the data sim

Multi Data Sim

Is the multi-data SIM option from Vodacom available only on certain contracts? I have a iPhone 240 contract and want a "duplicate" SIM for my iPad.

It is only for contract , not prepaid or topup , so you will be able to get it, try your nearest dealer.

Is it possible to get a voice contract and a data contract one sim card.
For example, get an MTN Anytime200 contract for calls and SMS, and then get a 2GB data contract on the same sim?

This is the Vodacom section and, yes you can have a monthly data bundle added to your contract on the same sim on Vodacom.

That's not the same as having a voice contract and a data contract on one SIM.

AFAIK, you can't have a voice contract and add a 2GB + 2GB data contract to it.

Did a search and didn't look at section only topic. Apologies.

That's what I was afraid of :( Add-on data bundles are a lot more expensive than data contracts. I guess that's the point.

I can understand why Data SIM is not available on prepaid but I cannot understand why Vodacom refuses to make Data SIM available to TopUp contract customers.

Is Vodacom ever going to make Data SIM available on TopUp contracts?

Surely Data SIM on TopUp would help Vodacom keep its competitive edge, unless Vodacom's strategy is to wait until all the TopUp customers switch to a competitor for multiple data bundles that are much cheaper than Vodacom's data bundles (for example 8ta).

I understood Data SIM was not available to prepaid customers because the prepaid billing system did not support it.

Since TopUp contracts use the prepaid billing system, they couldn't get it either.

Ditto for Night Owl.

Vodacom used to be at the bleeding edge of broadband in SA, that era came to an end several years back. Vodacom's broadband products are at the bottom of a stagnant mosquito larvae infested pond.

IMHO Vodacom needs fix three things:
1. Data SIM for TopUp customers
2. Older data bundles must be depleted before newer data bundles are depleted (contract; prepaid/TopUp; Standard; Advanced)
3. Contract data bundles and associated billing must be hard capped in realtime as is the case with prepaid
