Dating a vegetarian

Just had to add this... "She don't eat meat but she sure like a bone!"

You make it sound like a smoking habit she will need to give up. It ain't that easy for everyone. I don't eat any veg (well, I can count the fruit & veg that I do eat on one hand). Live off meat and starch

It is a habit that, I believe, people should try to give up or at least reduce. Not only for one's health, but also for the sake of the environment and the animals themselves. As I said though, I would not try and force or coerce anyone to change their eating habits, but hopefully could influence them over time through open and honest discussion.

I hear you, but I can guarantee you that there is no way that someone will be able to influence me in any way to change my habits. Firstly I will puke more than I will eat, secondly, I will eat 10 times more often just to stay full. I guess it's each to their own in the end

My wife just decided last week she is now a vegetarian. Thanks to a few youtube videos from PETA and the like. She won't even touch dairy or eggs now. Can't say I'm very impressed to say the least.

I'm not surprised but I would never consider doing the same for a split second. My family farm sheep and cattle and just looking at a bull makes me want some juicy steak in my tummy.

I've seen how they are slaughtered on our farms and it is over quickly and as painlessly as possible. Plus I am a huge animal lover so go figure. Anyway it is pointless having a veg vs. meat eater debate because it's not something you can change someones mind about when they've made their mind up.

I'd really suggest your wife first slip into vegetarianism (eating dairy and/or eggs) before going the black-and-white veganism route. Going cold-turkey isn't for everyone, especially if she's new to it all and doesn't quite know how to balance her diet.

BCO would probably be able to give advice on the veganism route if she's set on it :p

Congrats to her though, one person might not be a big difference in the great scheme of things, but it makes a difference to that one animal.

Thanks but I'm sure she'll be fine. She has been gradually eating less meat and dairy for a while and we have a few vegetarian friends who all can't wait to get their advice in lol.

I'm leaning towards vegetarian, have been eating less and less meat the last 5 years. I go to any and all restaurants, and simply order dishes that don't contain meat, nobody notices or has said anything, when we braai, I always have a small piece of boerewors and other times, I still eat small portions of chicken, I would say my diet now contains only about 10 - 15% meat. I don't talk about, the last thing I want is a discussion about it, simply make it a part of your lifestyle without the boohaa.

Why I eat less meat ?
- health reasons
- savvy long term view - sustainability
- empathic to all lifeforms

Seeing other people eat meat has no effect on me, the only time I notice meat eaters is when they use the loo - it stinks major in comparison with vegetarian poop

You should eat healthy meats like, Chicken, Fish and eggs these are good for you...

There seems to be quite a few vegetarians on this forum. I'm leaning to vegetarianism as well.

@Lycanthrope

While I dont get your reason. Imagine you fall inlove with someone who is on paper the most amazing person for you, but she turns out to be an omnivore, but is open to a vegetarian lifestyle. i know many such females who on occasion would become herbivores for a month then switch back. actually i know TOO many such females

Aside from the fact that tits don't interest me, if the person in question is not a vegetarian then they're not "the most amazing person" for me. If what I want in my life is an attractive guy with a slender physique who likes gaming why would I settle for:

I know what I want and I already have what I want. To use your example, I'm sure as hell not going to settle for someone with absolutely no staying power (read: capacity for commitment to something that simple) in their decisions. That's not the kind of person I want (or need) in my life. I can do without it. I'm not desperate ;)

Agreed, I eat eggs, chicken and fish. I still eat red meats at braais, but I tend to stay away from it as much as possible. Its just so heavy in my stomach, I never feel comfortable after a lot of red meat. Bloat and whatnot, compared to fish and chicken. Although I cannot resist a good bacon and Eggs.

I dont think I could ever turn full vegetarian. Mainly because my favourite saying when I am offered a salad is:
"That is not food, that is what food eats" :D

For those who are courting or have courted a vegetarian, what is the relationship like?

For example did you end up having to stop eating meat at some point when going out to a restaurant?

Question maybe vague, fill in holes where possible.
I am a Vegetarian and I have been dating my miss for over 5 years. She eats meat and that's her choice. I respect that, just like how I expect her to respect my decision to not consume meat. We spoke about it when we first started dating and I told her that I do not expect her to change her eating habits on my account. If she chooses to do it on her own will, that's a bonus. But I won't force my ideology on her and stop her eating meat. I think it's important that this matter is discussed at the beginning of the relationship so both parties are entering the relationship with their eyes open.

It hasn't affected our relationship at all. It does become abit tedius looking for nice places to eat that cater for both my girlfriend's and my dietary requirements but it's worth the hassle. We have found restaurants that we both like and we frequent them often.

Interesting... I know this is personal but how do you accept kissing the girl if she had meat in her mouth, (Just asking) Because I know this one friend of mine who is dating a girl that is a Vegan, and he like his meat and so on... The girl literary has her own bowls to make her vegies in... and the boyfriend his set of bowls etc... She doesn't allow any meat on the stove and plates.. etc So if she knows there was meat in the plate... She will not eat in that particular plate even if its washed afterwards. I would like to know are there really people like this that a very fuzy about these kind of things or are they acting drag queen?

Thanks!

Er... that's a bit irrational, bordering on OCD. I don't know how he manages, I would've left.

That is absolute rubbish i reckon, most veggies cause some seriously foul smelling crap and farts. Like something that will clear rooms in a second.

Oddly enough i find the more junk you eat the less it smells, the more good stuff you eat the more clear room material you become.

Besides if people flush straight after the first push it would smell less but most people sit for 10 minutes with the shyte just lying there stinking up the place. Poop flush, poop flush. Helps keep the smell away. Yes this is waste of water but for some people this should be a bloody law.
