Datsun Go! Thoughts

I actually saw somebody driving one this morning here in Douglasdale. What a miserable decade old looking thing.

And you are quite happy to buy a car that failed every crash test in the world??

I this a Darwin thread?

Why anyone would want to buy a car that is produced only for the third world.

We are the third world !!!

No electricity, corruption, low educated masses, our primary export is minerals etc etc

They sold close to 500 of those things in December :wtf:

A sad testament to the South African buyer's complete lack of discernment.

They are buying on price alone and to hell with the rest. As long as this idiotic mentality remains, we will continue to have these crappy death traps imported. Sort of like voting for the ANC, I guess.

Why would anyone buy this thing? I mean yes you can argue that it's cheap, but that's still no reason to buy a brand new car with no features when you can get a 3-5 year old car that has some safety features as well as a statement to show the world around you that you actually have at least a stitch of class?

Just doing a 2 minute search I found a 2011 Vivo for R88 000, a 2008 Ford Fiesta 1.6 - R85 000 a 2009 Clio 1.6 for R89 000.. I'm sure you could find something better in this price range but like I said, within 2 minutes I found much better deals that a Deathtrap Go. I would honestly rather drive a classic beetle...

Scored a fat 0 in ENCAP, the president of ENCAP has made a formal request to Datsun to remove the car from the market.

The crash test video is chilling:

wow, the one dummy is almost thrown out the windshield; while still buckled in,

its like a scooter with 4 wheels; and a bit more space; terribly unsafe;

The crash test video not only depicts what a deathtrap the GO is, but is also an accurate representation of how the ANC are running the country. So, if the president of ENCAP can make a formal request to remove the Datsun Go from the market, can't someone (head of the UN or similar) make a request for the ANC to be removed as government of South Africa, because clearly the voters can't do that?

I think one could argue that you'd be safer on a scooter. At least there's a chance you'll be thrown clear of the accident, and you're less prone to an impromptu dissection by means of a shearing metal death cage.

but I suppose this is a worst case scenario; I mean if you had to hit the car coming towards you at 120 KPH; would there be anything left?

actually why do they test at 64KP/h? is that the speed limit in europe?

The sheer lack of brain function from car buyers in South Africa has been well documented through the years. They have no clue.

Ps... i was earlier this year trying to extract a response from Datsun about the Ncap ratings... on their facebook page.

Subsequently all my questions were removed and I was blocked from posting any comments on their page.

Sausage move by them.

Pretty sleazy move. Would infuriate me to make even more noise on their page. Post it again, screenshot and then when they delete it start tweeting the screenshot and tell all that they delete and refuse to answer.
