Datsun is back!

Only spotted this now, but look where the handbrake is! Haven't seen one of those since the 80s.

Datsun (re)launches in RSA on the 20th...marketing campaign seems rather big based on telly & social media. Can quickly see the GO is being positioned as a "freedom" car for younger folk for cheap.

Eager to see how it does.

In India it was retailing for about R60 000.00 if converted into Rand from Rupees.

If my research means anything, that's the entry level one, without smartphone dock etc. and If I understand correctly, South Africa will only get 1 model (first), the top tier one.

Yeah, R109k too much. Why did they brag, up until recently, that the Go is a sub R100k car (in my meaning, that should be all models).

The pricing will be more like R80k for standard model no aircon no power steering and up to R100k for all bells and whistles.

Drove past Nissan in Silverton earlier today, didn't have time to stop and take photos / check out the car, but they had 2 Datsun Go's outside on display and one of them had a price in the window (R89 500). So it seems they will come in under the R100k mark as planned (not sure which model with which accessories).

Prices announced today: http://www.iol.co.za/motoring/special-features/datsun-go-hits-sa-starts-at-r89-500-1.1764862

1.2 Mid - R89 500
1.2 Lux - R99 500

"TWO GRADES
As far as features go, the base 'Mid' model keeps things rather basic with air conditioning and a driving computer with consumption readouts being the only noteworthy luxuries.
For an extra ten grand the 'Lux' adds electric power steering, manual central locking and electric windows, while in place of a conventional radio it has a mobile docking station that allows you to sync your smartphone with the car and use its button controls and door-mounted speakers for your music and navigation."

If they had dropped a further R10k on each of those prices, I might have been interested... but R100k for that, nope.. I will spend a bit more and get a slightly better vehicle thank you very much.

I kinda agree with your R10k less view esp since no models here or overseas have ABS or Airbags.

Having said that the GO has some (a number) of redeeming qualities. Very low kerb mass; A/C on all models; proven Nissan mechanicals; bigger than other A-segment competitors etc

It has redeeming qualities, but the price is pretty much R10k too high for the overall package...

at R80k I would buy the Mid as a city runabout.. at R90k nope... then its just too close to a decent 2nd hand car.

Forget what its name implies, Suzuki SA is hoping that its 'new city car' will make "waves" rather than a mere Splash in the crowded budget hatchback market.

Yet we must admit to being a bit confused by Suzuki's product planning here as the new Suzuki Splash will also have to compete with another Suzuki in this neck of the woods, namely the larger Swift hatchback.

Long story short, the Suzuki Splash models - starting at R124,900 - cost just R2,000 less than the equivalent Swift hatchbacks with the same engine and similar features.

As one of Suzuki's Japanese leaders said: "Let the customer decide."

NEW CITY CAR?????

It has been available in India as the Maruti-Suzuki Ritz, since May 2009 - all that is 'new' for SA is revised front end styling.........!!!
