Quite. In 60 days.

I'd imagine much like power barges the desal ships are on multi-month waiting lists.

SA can't keep doing this...waiting until it's a crisis already and then suddenly go "oh sht...lets START a multi-year project to fix it now".

Yep - there is no frikken way that 200 water points will suffice. It will be chaos, and basically civil war.

But now that I think about it - the USA military has water-borne desalination plants? Let me go do some research.

But asides this - if it ever comes to "day-zero" - **** is going to fly; and solidify.

Yep no forward planning has brought a city to its knees. as mentioned, if its not a crisis, its not important.

I like to take Singapore as an example for water because they did it so right its not even funny.

4 Desalination plants built in 7 years. 2 of them alone provide 25% of the water demand. The extra 2 will contribute and make up 30% of the water demand by 2060....
5 NEWater plants - cater for 40% of the water demand. NEWater - Reclamation plants collect and treat all the used water in Singapore in accordance to international standards.

Simple as Poor planning, poor leadership.
Day Zero is not going to fun for anyone, wish you fellas luck

In our most recent oversight discussions, on Friday the City outlined its Day-Zero plan as follows: One week before the six dams providing water to the Western Cape Water Supply System (WCWSS) are collectively projected to drop to 13.5%, the City will announce the date on which almost all the taps in Cape Town’s residential suburbs will be cut off.

Edit: Cape Town doesn't have a lot of bunkers. Built on sandy soil...

This is the main discussion everywhere I went over the last week or so. Luckily on the farm we might still have a bit after day zero. Will be stocking up and storing in my coldrooms before day zero, just for drinking purposes at least.

This will turn chaotic. I'm really hoping that it will rain before the **** finally hit the fan.

The Monwabisi and Strandfontein plants are expected to provide seven million litres of water, or 7 000 kilolitres, each day for two years, after which they will be shut down.

Will they produce the 7million Litre combined or per plant?
Let's throw in the V&A one too, + another. i.e. 4 plants equaling 50 Million /day

Either way, it's far from enough. CPT is using around 500 Million Litre /day

Can already see big K@K coming in the near future, I was just at Makro and they've completely ran out of Aquelle 4x5liter boxes of water, they apparently got stock in this morning, about 35 pallets each holding about 100 boxes, and all the stock was gone by 13:30pm! I was just in time to grab a few boxes and people were going crazy loading their trolleys as fast as possible.

Tough times ahead.

The panic can be worse than the actual crisis.

Well… the closer the date, the earlier they may be punitive towards ‘abusers’. We are already in a critical phase and I believe the city is doing their best to warn people in lowering their water consumption.

Now that Zille has said that Day Zero is now probable, we may expect collection point trials soon. They already tested two collection points in Strand/Gordon's Bay some time ago when they connected the piping to a possible desalination plant connected to Steenbras. Seeing how poorly those two points were planned and managed, they must improve.
