This is taking a long shot, but perhaps there is a legend that walks among us who recalls programming in dBASE and still possesses the almighty wisdom.

I am on the hunt for a developer who is adept when it comes to dBASE who can step in alongside our current developer.

Our company deals in data, huge amounts of it. We customize our data for our clients needs and uses and have also started work on an API for our platform. The workload sitting on my current developers desk has reached a point where I need to get her an extra set of hands.

The ideal situation would be to have "you" come on board to not only assist with certain projects, but potentially help with our systems conversion to Python.

If this is you, please drop me a PM.

As in ashton-tate/borland dBase? dBase III and IV?

When I was 14, I worked on a database / app built in DB2 or DBase 2. I don't know which it was - it worked kind of like a text-based MS Access.

Rebuilt it in VB later (sadly - the tools I knew)

Think this belongs to IT jobs, just improve the template.

Mods, please move if necessary. I didn't use the template as wasn't sure this request fitted in with the formal layout. Happy to adjust it if need be :)

dBASE is attempting to make a comeback, although personally, I have never used it. I would like to move us over to Python at a point to fit in with our API being built on Python.

I used it in my first dev job but that was in 1990...think it was called dbase IV. The company I worked for then decided to go the Unix and 4GL route so we converted everything to Ingres

Found one article on "making a comeback" which was from 2016, I think it pretty much only has support from the original dBase community.

I am young, just read up on it. Supposedly dbase IV was a flop:

It's not DB2.

The companies founder had a strong connection to dBASE. We needed to upgrade a while ago already!

My comment didn't imply they were successful :D

With dBASE 12 they are trying to "modernize" the feature set and create a NO to LOW code environment, personally, when I hear those terms my flags are triggered (of course I may be wrong).

My first formal job was doing dbaseIV dev work. This was in 1990 or thereabouts :p

Are the developers actually coding in dbase or just reading? I remember back in 2006 or so, we used to read from a dbaseIII database but all the work would be done rather in sql etc. Even back then it was considered a old product, certainly time to consider modernising, lack of dev support least concerns.

I did some work for a company a few months ago. They were using dBaseIV, access and a long forgotten programming language....bleh. I of course used SQLLite and C#.NET to do my work, then just dumped the results into Dbase.

SQLite is the schizz bro... Wonder what I'd do without it.
