DCS World. A serious combat flight sim

Agreed. But maybe this might entice you.

It has wings! Consider me enticed. :p

I need to configure some modifier I can use for easier mouse look.

It's called trackIR 5. :D

Seriously, and I know vlerkies agrees with me here, you cannot go wrong with trackIR in a sim like DCS A10. Aside from being 100% practical in the sense of having 6 degrees of freedom in 3D space, the immersion factor rockets exponentially when you're truly "in" the cockpit like that. I think that some people tend to think of it as more of a gimmick but really it isn't.

Already got the Logitech G940 this month, looked at TrackIR 5 and it looks great... will have to wait till payday though :)

Investing a lot in this, but reckon I'm going to get a lot out of it and that's why its great to have some local community around it. Looked around before I started this thread but couldn't find anything particular to SA...

Good stuff! You won't be sorry! Be sure to get the track clip pro with it. My next purchase is Saitek combat rudder pedals. R2200 to have precise yaw control? Totally worth it! :D

Yeah, very good to see local interest. Will be better once we're all on one version (DCS world with standard version of A10). Those TARS okes also need to crack out a new, compatible version already.

TiR is the biznezz.
It takes some time to get the hardware together for sure. Pesky budgets :(
You can certainly learn a lot of the systems without TiR and get going no probs.
In a combat environment though I reckon its like oxygen, kinda necessary. That said though Flanders brother flies without it no probs and doesnt seem to have a hassle.

Lots of folks including myself have used this online store to purchase flightsim related goodies.
http://www.simw.com/

There is a shop at the Rand Airport that carries quite a bit of stuff related to flight simming, and its worth checking them out as well.
Cometaviation
http://www.cometaviationsupplies.co.za/

They have trackir listed there and other hardware.
Check pricing though.
The overseas store normally has good bundle deals that include TiR and the proclip at a very competitive rate.
My experience is if you place an order on a monday, its at your post office by the friday.

Sunday 16:00 SAST DCS world A10c 1.2.0.6....

I'll be there.

Let's leave enemy air defense for now, I still have a lot of difficulty spotting enemies without labels and just have a training session.

The targets are at a specific waypoint in this mission, so we'll go through the different ways of locating targets(TGP, HUD, JTAC), using the "mark" function and datalinks. That's if I can still remember it.

Kat, nice flying with you. Hopefully next time we can get our own server up.

Maybe next time we can do the landing without playing bumper cars :P Looking forward to seeing the fraps :D

Think tomorrow night I'm gonna find me some bridges!

RIP Kaot  - Watch in HD

Attempt at formation flying goes wrong. Touch and go's in formation was probably a bad idea. I was actually lead aircraft on this circuit.

Edit: I forgot to set fraps to record my mic so you only hear my wingman.

Will upload the one where I was following you, and we got it right, in the the morning.

LOL! :D

With TARS, the fireball victim would've been cut off mid sentence had he been yapping on the radio at the time - some hilarious moments to be had.

I forgot to set fraps...

A lead cause, I believe, of many a prematurely downed Nipponese airman back in the day.

Well, looking at that landing from your view I see that I bumped it quite hard! Didn't really notice it while we were busy cause I was battling to correct to keep on the right side of the runway, and my nose went all over the show as we touched down.

Good fun all round, next time we shoot at stuffs :D

Flanders/Sneeky, will be great if you guys could join in next time. I just need to find the version you guys are running so we can get TARS running.

This time, I take the wingman position. Worked out pretty nicely. Again, watch in HD.

Jeez, I bounce those landings like they're nobody's business!! Need to practice them some more.

Thanks for the uploads Kat.

http://bit-shift.com/icontroldcs/index.html <-- This would be great, pity it's just for iPad...
What's the most difficult part of using an iPad? Telling your parents that you are gay!

Do a youtube search for HELIOS DCS A10, similar type thing that allows you to export panels to monitors or touchscreen devices.
Never tried it myself though.

On landing, check your speed, looks a little hot coming in. 120-130 kias depending on the weight.
Nice thing about this type of sim is there are always loads of good tutorials on youtube covering almost every aspect of the sim.

Had a look at HELIOS, seems it only supports directly connected monitors.

I am in the market for a tablet, and the bit-shift app may just grudgingly swing me over to getting an iPad since they don't seem to have an android port of the app as a high priority.

Had some better landings last night, when I arrive at the runway I tend to be a bit high and fast and I used to just kill my throttle right at the end which kinda made me drop like a rock. Since I'm not paying for the plane I didn't really care but seeing it on video is just embarrassing!

Hahaha, classic

I tend to get my flaps down a little and bleed speed before turning long finals.
Then deploy the speed brake a fraction, maybe 20% and leave it there. Drop flaps to landing and adjust speed and re-trim.

Place the flight path marker the edge of the runway from a long way out and just keep it there. You can then use subtle speed and stick inputs to correct.
You'll be greasing the landings in no time. After a while you get a good feel for it.

If you get it right you can kill your throttle as you cross the threshold of the runway, if you still think you are a bit high, then deploy speedbrake to full and you will increase your rate of descent.

EDIT: sorry i forgot, deploy the landing gear after flaps full, then re-trim HAHA.
There are only 2 types of pilots in this world. Those that have had a 'gear up' landing and those that are still going to have one.
:D
