DCS World. A serious combat flight sim

Not sure, but I think its the one you guys flew in the mountains.

The SAM never got me :D My problem was my counter measures were not on lol, so some hectic maneuvering in mountainous terrain dodged the sam but = lawn dart when i ran out of Alt

Looks like a sweet mission.

Yeah, it is pretty cool. I think it assigns different objectives randomly when you hit the IP, which makes it a bit less predictable than the usual ones. Also spotting targets in the mountains are a bit more difficult than in the open.

Was kinda interesting as I thought I had configured everything however my rudder pedals were reversed and the toe brakes, taxiing was not pretty, sigh of relief just to get off the ground.

Hows the TiR working for you? Takes some getting used to and requires fine tuning but once you get it sorted its hard to live without.

Theres also a fairly good youtube vid on TiR setup

Speed and smoothness settings need fiddling in my opinion and you can set the various axis curves to your liking while watching the head movement in the dispalys.

Yeah, looks like that mission really is dynamic to a degree. We re-flew and it gave us different co-ords the second time.

Vlerk, after you went down I was hit 3 times by manpads within seconds. Again, from missile launch to impact was 2 seconds max. AC was fubar but engines up so I limped out of there. My nav had reverted to HARS and I had no TAD or CDU so needed Crog to point me back to base. Just as we were in the process of locating one anothr visually, his connection bombed. Flew again and this time we climbed to 25000ft to IP Banks. 2 advantages - manpads can't get you and also the TGP has a much better chance of not becoming terrain masked. We cleared out our first objective easily with 2 well placed J-dams and Crog was once again booted from the session (something like 'server ping timeout' on his side) but my connection was up so I don't know what's potting there.

We will just have to get this #%*& right...and soon, gents! Our boys are dying up in those hills! :p

Oh, and I found something else - on the TACAN - anything with 'Y' (as our tankers were set), does not give you distance. If you set the same value but with 'X', you get distance info. Why that is, I have no idea. :p

Didn't cloud cover mask the TGP?

Cool, will give it a shot. Maybe on the start of the next mission I'll just get a loadout of CBUs to deal with those ground hugging bastards!

When do you guys want to fly again? I spoke to some of the ArmA guys who fly DCS, and they reckon a Wednesday regular flight would suit them.

Wait, what? spend most of my time playing Arma with United Operations. Didn't know that there was a saffer group?

I purchased ArmA CO last night and am busy joining up with the guys at arma.co.za

Thx Kaot, that sorted out the training video issue, but what about the manuals. In the video it tells me to check the Flight Manual for further details.

Check the DCS website, under downloads there is a documentation section:

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/

Though I see no flight manual for the SU-25, generally you'll find a youtube video demonstrating more technical details, or better yet, get the A-10!! :D

finally got dcs world down. now to install and see how it runs on my rig.

Welcome aboard! :D The SU-25 is a nice way to sucker you in, it's a great plane but would be cool if they make a version of it with the fully interactive cockpit like the rest of their pay-to-planes. Again, I highly recommend getting the A-10, doesn't break the bank at around R320 and flying with the rest of the guys is great fun, if you can avoid the mountains unlike me the other night...

ran it @ 1080p on max settings. Load times are a little long, Once i figure out the controls I will be able to judge how it is running on my rig. Got a gtx560ti 2gb card with a i5-2500k proc & 8gb ddr3. It always feels like with any of the lockon games, and even Arma when i tried it, that i need a more powerful machine.

That's more than I have - gtx560ti 1gb, i5-2400 & 8gb ddr3 with settings at max and it is generally silky smooth. The only times I sometimes have minor slowdowns is if I have my TGP and MAV up on the displays. Even then it's no drama. It will lose a couple fps and then seemingly recover. Load times are quite long in some cases, I agree, but rather that than crap fps. To add to the load times issue though is the fact that client must always DL the server file regardless of whether it's loaded locally or not. A tad frustrating but not game breaking by any stretch. There is a rumour that they are devving a dedicated server for world (KAOT has the linky for that somewhere) so that should be quite epic for the long run.
