I'm not alone! socket 939 2GB DDR400
Buying a dual core 939 is still cheaper then buying a whole new AM2 or core 2 duo system...

Cheapest dual core 939 available costs about R2400. You can get a nvidia chipset AM2 motherboard, 2GB of DDR667 and a 3800+ AM2 for R2400...

(and you probably wont even need to reinstall/repair install Windows)

for the guys that run 2GBs of DDR-400 with Vista, what memory subscore do you get in the windows experience index?

I get 5.6 with my crappy 2GB Transcend DDR2-800, while a friend of mine gets something like 3.7 with his 2GB of DDR-400...

I get 5.4 with 2gb Corsair Value DDR-400 and when i swopped it out to G-Skill 2-3-2-5 (to test) it went down to 5.1. And that was supposed to be better RAM With all 4 modules it goes below 5.0 (can't remember what it was) It also only sees 2.75 gb that way. My cpu is the weak link with a score of 5.0 (subscore)

My notebook still has 256MB PC133 and a 1.2GHz Pentium-III chip. I'm going to indulge in upgrading it to a gig, but that's it. I'm saving the rest of my money for a MBP...

My Vista rating on 2GB of DDR400 Samsung 3-3-3-10 RAM is 4.7

Not exactly high end stuff. I know DDR 800 is theoretically 2X faster than DDR 400 is terms of the speed, but it obviously isn't going to make that much a difference to anything you do.

Atm it seems only the 1333+ DDR3 RAM actually makes any difference, I'm sure the price makes that negligable.
