DDR3 is now out...

Thanks SSB, I guess all manufacturers will be releasing new mobos now :p ;)

They already have, it features the new Intel P35 chipset which can uses DDR2 and DDR3 depending on whats the motherboard maker implements and the chipset features a improved memory controller, in tests it delivers 5% real world increase over the 975X (previous top intel chipset) even when using the same DDR2...

And the AMD equivelants SSB? I could google, but my mind is blank :p ;)

No DDR3 on AMD yet, would need socket AM3 to come out since AMD has onboard memory controllers, their controllers would handle DDR2 and DDR3 if I remember correctly.

Not any performance improvement on DDR3 yet anyway...

And here I am still using DDR-400...

Me too actually ;) And my trusty socket 939 AMD :p ;) :D

I need to buy a dual core processor, but I'll do it sometime this year, then I should have a cool enough pc for another year or two.

Well I'm also 2GB of DR400, seems to be the magic number right now. :D

How much better is the performance of say 667 or 800 DDR2 RAM? Obviously I'm not going to bother upgrading my board and chip just for the RAM, but I'd like to know...
