A new strain of TB that can kill within a month has hit South Africa - prompting a high-level meeting of experts in Johannesburg on Thursday.
-
It emerged in Tugela Ferry in KwaZulu-Natal, killing 52 of the 53 people infected with it, half of them within 25 days of diagnosis.

Killer strain of TB has doctors worried September 07 2006

Ohh ya - the splendors of good government and their care for the people. Perhaps we should all leave and can come back when there's no one left?

:)

Sorry but 12 years later we're still waiting - for government to wake up and realise their ineptitude is going to/IS biting them in the arse. They think nobody notices - but dead people everywhere are hard to ignore.

Ya, the DoH is doing a pretty appalling job. Even worse when there are people's lives on the line, not just their broadband

Airborne diseases are a nightmare...

*hides*
*...in an airtight room*
*...and dies of suffocation*

My - seems like a morgue around here today - I wonder why? Maybe it be all the dead people - National No Troll Day?

Those be big vultures.

Giving this a little more thought: this is the equivalent of Ebola - no cure, fatal within 30 days and easily transmittable.

Large scale quarantine throughout the country (already started in kwaZulu) - and any number of wild strains out there that can mutate - never mind any quarantine?

And (today) the ANC firmly endorses Manto :(

You know, if I had to take to heart, or worry about all the sicknesses that could have killed me, I would have been dead long ago. We die from the day that we are born. If you are scared of dying of this or that sickness.. Cheat. Commit suicide.:D :D

Dying is not the problem - it's how you die that's important - and speak for yourself - how can the growing of youth equal dying? You may be going to some future death - but you are not dying "from the moment you are born" - ultimately we are struck down by any number of body failures - these will be solved by science and medicine (as life as been extended continually throughout the centuries) -. Beetroot may be the answer to this - but then again - probably not.

You bunch of bright smart internet savvy lads are even worse than Dr Garlic Beetroot Manto when it comes to the understanding of medical problems.

XDR (Extreme Drug Resistant) TB occurred and have even killed people in the US as the problem is that first line drugs developed in the 60's and most of the second line drugs simply don't work anymore since these things develop a resistance to it because people don't complete the full TB treatment 6 month course.

Btw there is no TB third line drugs available.

No drug firm is doing any research into new drugs for TB except with grants from folks like Bill Gates because there is more money to be made in selling penis enlargement , obesity, cholestrol and anti-depressents in the West than it is to worry about a poor people's disease in Africa and elsewhere.

And WTF the ANC has to do with all of this ???.
Damm bloody educate yourself you sad lot instead of downloading p0rn and warez the whole ****en day !!!!.

A bit unrelated sorry, I read a while back where the US was trialing a HIV attack virus built from a flu virus. It would basically attack cells infected with HIV and kill them.

Imagine if that virus was overcome by HIV, mutated and then HIV became airborne:eek:

Well excuse me - the ANC is very firmly at fault; it is at fault for non-delivery of basic services, non-delivery of any impact on the housing situation - zero impact on people freezling, getting wet and living in unsanitary conditions. Why do people live in a sewer (road CT airport) - well, because there is no sanitation and no public service support - exactly the things this government is supposed to have delivered 12 years later. These conditions lead to the rise of TB. Then the anc is further at fault - for not ensuring sufficient public education exists into the terrors/ and errors of TB and not completing course. Further - their vehement support of non-proven methods in the treatment of aids has led to the deaths of MILLIONS of people - including 2 MILLION orphaned kids at this time in this country. But no - the anc is not a fault and has nothing to do with it.

I just love this - on one hand they say one thing/subscribe to x (a grand theory) - on the other hand every action and non-action is an attack on those very things they purport to hold dear (zuma - a human rights violation, Mbeki - marsha stewart, etc.)

Good governance comes from clear LEADERSHIP, absolute HONESTY and clear POLICIES - the anc fails on all 3.

Uum - how come the super resistant strains are a thing of the 60's anywhere else (according to your post.) Um last time I looked out the window it was 2006 - what is missing from this message? Could it be compassion, caring and empathy? Or is it simply incompetence, denial and neglect.

And WTF the ANC has to do with all of this ???.

Whoowee - peace to you too brother.

Ooh ya - and let's BLAME drug firms and western medicine.

Yep the ANC is responsible for people ****ing each other without them using condoms and for not completing their TB treatment course.

Blame the govt of all our problems ... so what ever happened to personal responsibility ???.

But then some of you are probably used the way the Nats worked where they told us that the sky was green , God was on their side and blacks were all happy about Apartheid and that those who caused the problems was just a small minority of communist agitators.

Rather drop these old retarded notions about the role of govt I would suggest.
