Dead pixel

Yeah - 1 dead pixel is not considered faulty.

This is a problem with LCD panels......I know this would piss me off.

Go back on a busy morning (saturday) and cause a scene ... maybe you lucky and they will replace.

With which brand?

One dead pixel is definitely considered faulty with Samsung, I returned one two weeks ago.

Ok cool took it back they said that LG have certain requirements for dead pixels. if they are in not a conspicuous place then they allow up to 7. But... if they are in the middle of the screen (like my brothers) they will swap it out...

Now the new one also has a dead pixel but it's hardly noticeable right at the bottom of the screen.

Smells fishy! I would email Samsung and check with them as to what their requirements are, because I have returned two 22" Samsungs with one dead pixel to my supplier.

Unless Zones' relationship with Samsung is different...

They gave us a little sheet with LG's requirements etc.

For smaller LCD's the dead pixel requirements are much less than the bigger ones.

Samsung will only replace under warantee if there are 10 or more dead pixels, know somebody with the same problem, and she just bought a new 2232GW samsung.

Where did she buy from? Did she speak to Samsung herself? Or did she speak to a retailer?

I think the problem lies in having to return the monitor within 14 days to the retailers' distributor in order to qualify for <10 dead pixel return. Obviously, if the retailer has had the monitor in its shop for more than 14 days, then it will not qualify for <10 dead pixel return.

If its got a dead pixel out of the box I'd get the seller to take it back...under duress if necessary.

It is not the supplier or the distributor that enforces this, but the manufacturer. The ISO 13406-2 guidelines for pixel defects, governs the industry, so taking it out on your supplier will not help, he is in the same boat as you.

Personally i always inform my clients about the possibility of dead pixels, and let them read the ISO 13406-2 guidelines, before i sell them a LCD.

Sent them this:

Hi,I bought this LG screen from a retailer and out of the box, there was a red dead pixel in the middle of the screen. We took it back, and they swapped it out for another screen.

However, this new screen also has a dead pixel, and would like to know what's going on? and what are your policy's regarding dead pixels? The retailer seemed to think that there are a certain amount of dead pixels allowed before you swap it out. Surely though, you should check the screens before you ship them out, as both of them had dead pixels right out of this box, and to me this seems unacceptable.
Could you please inform me as to what I should do?

Regards

I went to the LG website, called the customer support number, spoke to a chap by the name of Freeman. He advised me to return it to the place of purchase, and get the retailer to contact him personally.

Screen was swapped out there and then. Good luck!

Nice, my pixel is also in the centre of the screen.

I think Dell is the only company in SA that checks each screen before it packages them. Hence their no dead pixel policy. It wouldn't be very cost effective for a company to check every screen without charging a premium for it.

Yeah I was very confused :D

BTW, LG = Lousy Goods - In future steer clear imo

L.G. handle warranties better than Samsung - when mine was in for repairs (Samsung), they had it for over a month, almost two. The repair shop said he hates dealing with Samsung, and if I buy another monitor, make it an LG.
