Dealextreme.com

Hi Guys,

I want to order something worth $110 from dealextreme.

Any recent experiences of ordering from them? Any suggestions?

Unrelated. What do you guys think about the following product?
http://dx.com/p/rkm-rikomagic-mk902...-tv-player-w-2gb-ram-16gb-rom-5-0mp-eu-276393

I wouldn't touch anything which hasn't been reviewed on the dx site itself. Even jewellery and things you wouldn't think needed to be reviewed. Lets you know if they are going to work/fall apart :)

But the product I am looking to buy is not unknown product. There are few reviews outside of dx.

My brother ordered two cell phone batteries from them beginning November, they arrived this morning.

I suspect our post office might be to blame for this though. I haven't received a mail that I know was sent over a month ago, so it's either missing or heavily delayed.

In general I receive packages at about the 3-4 week mark, but in the past, as soon as I order something around Christmas, the time estimate goes out the window.

I wonder if any of you 'regular importers' from China could perhaps give me some advice....

I have a parcel with a China tracking number and the tracking number states that the parcel arrived at ZAJNBA, which I assume if Johburg on 5Dec13 - I have not received a Foreign Parcel Collection slip in the post as yet and am scared the parcel might be returned to China or has been nationalised by one of hour postal workers.

What can I do?

Enter the overseas tracking number here and you will get local tracking details with the local ZA number

Hi guys,

I just received a parcel from Deal Extreme this morning. It's been a long wait (7 weeks) and a little frustrating experience. I thought I might give my step-by-step for anyone who happens to come across this post in the future.

1) Place an order on the Deal Extreme website and pay. A day later, receive an email telling that my payment has been confirmed and the order is being processed.
2) Two days later, receive an email telling me my order has been shipped. Save the tracking number. Download and save the invoice.
3) The tracking number was R***********CH meaning it had to transit from Hong Kong through Switzerland to South Africa. Track it from http://www.swisspost.com/ (the parcel only showed up on this website four days after I got the tracking number, maybe because of weekends or Chinese New Year or whatever).
4) Three weeks later, the package departs from Switzerland for South Africa.
5) Four days later, it arrives in South Africa. Start tracking it from http://sms.postoffice.co.za/TrackingParcels/
using the same international tracking number. Note there is now also a South African tracking number.
6) Two days later, tracking shows the package is at customs, Johannesburg, with "Detention Notice". Phoned the guys at http://www.emssouthafrica.co.za/ and get told I need to send them the invoice. The email address I got out of them, was bogus, go figure. So I just mailed the invoice to [email protected] and also included both tracking numbers.
7) The package gets released and without any further correspondence it arrives at the Menlyn Post Office a week later. I didn't wait for the notification slip, I just printed the page from the SAPO tracking (with the South African tracking number) and went to the branch in question.
8) Pay R91 in duties and R19 for a release fee, all at the post office (The sum of my order was $57).

Things I will try next time:
1) Maybe not use my office address, just my PO Box. I'm not sure the package would have made it to my office if I didn't go to the branch myself.
2) It might save time to mail the invoice to customs as soon as there is a proper tracking number.
3) Maybe next time I'll ship it as a gift to myself and see if I can circumvent the duties.
4) Be more patient because it takes time.

I am going to stop using DX completely now, ever since they switch to Swiss Post for some of there goods, its been harder to track and it seems to take a lot longer.

I've been using Aliexpress for a year now and found that not only do I get my things quicker, it is actually in most cases considerably cheaper.

If your use to Ebay, Aliexpress is basically the Chinese equivalent, so you need to do some homework on the seller before you buy from them, and only trust reputable sellers.

Just ordered 6 small items for R 100 from dx, including a must have lord of the rings ring. Lets see how long it takes for my precious to arrive :D

Using Aliexpess what method of postage do you'll guys use?
I agree when DX switched to Swiss Post, things got botched. With DX I've always ticked the drop shipping option to remove any logo etc. and I've never paid duties on any of my orders sometimes $30 or more.

1. The package will only reach you via normal post delivery if customs did not detain it and it is small enough so that the postman can actually deliver it. If the parcel is a bit big your local post office depot will send out a "parcel is too big to be delivered" collection slip to you. If the parcel gets detained by customs, as it happened in your case unfortunately, they (are supposed to) send out a notification to you asking you to furnish them with eg. the invoice, proof of payment or whatnot. In our neck of the woods Capemail sends me this notification by speedy FastMail. I would guess that there is a slightly lower risk of any of these notifications going missing if they are heading to your PO Box vs your office.

2. I fax through my documentation and instructions to Capemail as soon as the tracking indicates it landed there. I use 17track.net to track all my stuff in one go. This helps speed us delivery most of the time.

3. Packages marked as gifts have the exact same chance of getting hit by customs than those that ain't marked as gifts in my experience. My packages that are trackable tends to get hit by customs way more often than packages that are not trackable.

4. Yep, you can say that again. Unfortunately parcels can take months to arrive...

Disclaimer: Item not from DX, but from a seller on AliExpress. Capemail was obviously to blame for this one.

When I search for things I just enable the "free shipping" filter , most of the time they will use China mail, but one or two sellers actually ship with DHL...

Also enabling the trusted sellers only helps a lot ;)
