I signed a new contract with Cell C a few weeks ago. I have about 3 months left on my Top Up Vodacom contract, and would like to port that number to Cell C. According to Vodacom this can be done, and they allow it. (See thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/507342-Port-Number-From-Current-Contract)

Problem is Cell C, your call center denies this, and says it can't be done? I moved to Cell C for better service, but they dont seem to want to help?

Please advise? Anyone?

Yes, it is possible to port a number from Vodacom while it is still in contract. Vodacom will just assign a new number to the SIM and keep billing as usual.

It sounds like you've already taken out the Cell C contract and got a new number, and only now want to port your Vodacom number?
Is that correct?

I think your mistake is that you took out a contract with cell c and already have a new number with them. Once you have a number and a contract, you cannot port another number onto that contract.

As vodacom have pointed out, you can port the number, but it i will have to be to a new contract or new prepaid deal will cell c.

You were supposed to wait for voda contract to lapse. Then port to cell c and apply new contract with cell c linked to that number.

So it not going to possible unless you take a second contract with cell c.

Not easily. The call centre and stores won't be able to help you, but this may be possible higher up. Try PM Cell_C.

No, please read.

So what you guys are telling me, is that I now have to wait for the Vcom contract to lapse, convert to pre-paid and then only will I be able to port the number?

What's the use to porting then?

Can't Cell C make and exception?

No you can port right now if you wish. You will have two contracts with Cell C, because you already took one out with them a few weeks ago.

If i understand you correctly, i think you wanted to port your vodacom number to the contract you took with cell c a couple weeks back - thats not going to be easy - and of course the contact centre and store will tell you it cant be done. In my opinion even with help from Cell_C its not going to happen.

It may involve some convoluted process, like first porting the Vodacom number to a Cell C prepaid SIM and then swapping the two numbers, but I'm sure Cell_C can help you.

Thank You Cell_C

I would like to thank the Cell_C representative on the forum.

After sending him my contact details, he phoned me personally within an hour. Explained what he could do to help, and did exactly as promised. Personally called to follow up again the next day. Query sorted within 24 hours.

Big thumbs up to you, if this is what can be expected from Cell C, I'm glad I made the move!
