The technical issues are really critical.

Which LNB is installed?
Any switches installed?
How are the decoders coupled together for the HB signal?

And it is all or nothing with them. The third decoder won't work at all well without the access fee activated.
It’s a smart LNB, the one that accepts 4 cables.
Each decoder has a single cable directly from the LNB, so the HB is via the LNB
There are 2 cables leaving the LNB, so I was looking at connecting a 3rd cable directly to the LNB.
No switches/splitters installed.

I may have to install a splitter with power pass onto the secondary cable to get to have a cable in the 3rd (occasionally used) environment and just move the secondary decoder when I need it.
Would this be an issue, having a non-terminated split?

Screw the technology f ups. Its the repeats that drive one batshit crazy.

which model Smart LNB - it may have 4 ports but not all 4 will be Unicables(satcr) depending on model if its the LMX 501 it has 3 unicable ports so will be fine.

just my two cents you spending an extra R105 a month just for a decoder you using occasionally?

You can't simply split Unicable, nor Universal BTW.

Does sound like a LMX 501, you'll have the third needed Unicable port.

@isie , yes the 501 has just one Universal port, total of 4.
(EDIT: Sorry for earlier confusion with the 500 model.)

Thanks. Just to complete the picture, even though others have already replied.

Sounds like an LMX 501, so yes it will support 3 decoders under XV with HB via the LNB.
Must make sure the Primary decoder is connected to unicable port A. Ports B, C, then for the secondary decoders.
cant split the Unicable signals to two decoders - not with MC's setup.
The Primary must be an Explora for the 3-decoder combination to work.
The 3 decoder combination ONLY WORKS with an LMX 501 or LMX 500 SLNB. Or a 24-1Z switch.
Primary works best when set as Decoder 1 in the setup, with the other two activated as Decoder 2 and Decoder 3.

Lots of patience is required with MC! lots! Nothing goes smoothly with them. I have just spent two weeks activating a replacement decoder on an Easy view package with an older decoder in the mix.

You never get a single straight story out of them. It is a case of sorting one issue at a time.
And the last hurdle is to get the latest sw update. Took the intervention of an insider before it happened without them wanting me to take the decoders to an agent or to them!

It’s the LNB with 3 unicable ports, + 1 additional port, so each (Explora) decoder has its own dedicated cable.

I think the “extra” R105 access fee is part of the Premium package, which also enables the pvr functionality (plus other “benefits”).

Primary-decodered TV is used daily.
Secondary-decodered TV is in a bedroom and probably used 2-3 times a month. In fact, due to a cabling issue, there was no signal for 8 months, and was not missed. (Btw that cabling issue is another story…)
So I want to be able to move that decoder to another room where it will be used a few times a month and then move it back to the bedroom. But if I can connect a 3rd decoder (which is sealed in it’s box for 3 years) without having to pay extra, - happy days.

For 3 decoders you will be charged the R105 Access Fee twice. The first access fee covers 1 or 2,decoders only.

Can't login to dstv.com to manage account.

Been struggling for days now. 4 browsers still not winning. :cautious:

you think? i think you should check first what they charge.

yes, if you have 1 decoder with pvr you pay R105 extra. add a second decoder even with pvr its still included in that first R105 so if you have it and hardly use it, no brainer its still not paying extra so worth it , but for the 3rd decoder you will pay another extra R105 so no that's not worth it especially since you hardly going to use
not happy days

Same problem on DSTV Now app, tried everything, PER 1 error won't go away.
What to do guys? Rugby time is approaching
I got multiple android MiBox's. I'm getting the PER 1 error for a few weeks now. Strange thing is, when I plug the android box into an actual tv, the DSTV now works fine. I got it plugged into monitor with sound and was working fine for years. HDCP update stuff maybe causing issues?

Hi does anyone know how much dstv would charge to exchange an explora 2a decoder i tried to phone and they just gave me the runaround saying i need to bring the decoder in and only then can they tell me how much they will charge to exchange it.

You're phoning the call centre, try find the no. for their service centre nearest you. Last known I believe it was just a few hundred rands.

I may be wrong but the standard repair cost for an Explora is R700 and R320 for a single view decoder

Thanks yes I was phoning the call centre I can’t find any service centres near to me the closest seems to be Randburg but the number for that is the call centre number.
