They were relying on Koeberg for the reserve margin and someone dropped a bolt...

Also, since then they've geared the gas turbines to have fuel to work for extended periods, hadn't yet blown up Duvha, the Majuba silos hadn't collapsed, Lethabo wasn't drowning in ash and they've worked out how to optimally use excess capacity overnight to recharge the pumped storage schemes.

The "Solar Route" was meant to save energy costs, more than reduce traffic congestion. It was more economical to replace the bulbs with LEDs.

I'm not proposing solar. I'm proposing a pure grid based battery backup recharged when the power returns. It is not meant to save electricity, only end congestion during power cuts.

It is a cop-out to say "Oh but the batteries will be stolen". Put the damn things in 50mm thick armour plated monster safe boxes mounted 5m in the air on a pole or buried underground with alarms. These are major intersections, not dark, quiet streets where criminals can work unseen.

In a sense yes, but no, it was new milk. A bag of milk(buying shelf box from now on) It went off as it was hot and power was off when brought it home. Between traffic and heat in car, the fridge without power wasn't enough to cool it(fridge had defrosted already, water dripping)... so, more like I didn't have ability to cool warm milk fast enough, and that must have started a reaction in milk which turned overnight.
 
Eskom and Government needs to implement this

If only Eskom could just do this! We need to get a way forward that both Eskom and Government can agree upon and not blame each other as the cause of the power crisis. Wish they can do this daily and actually keep to schedules published.

Does Zuma (and the Cabinet) even know that Eskom are load-shedding ?

And that Eskom's top management are lying through their back teeth ?
 
I've heard (probably widely known) that Sunridge Park in PE never experiences load shedding due to state of the substation. Switch off and it'll never come on again. Anyone able to confirm this?

If they take 2000MW offline in order to do planned maintenance, that would be a guaranteed Stage 2 load shed. But we're still stuck then with a very low reserve margin powered by unreliable, unmaintained plants that will threaten to drop us into Stage 3 or beyond. Taking plants out of service like this wouldn't do anything to increase predictability, it would just move our risk from 0MW-2000MW shortfall to 2000MW-4000MW shortfall.

That leaves you still being unable to predict your day.

I think you need a new fridge. Your fridge is inefficient and probably costing your more electricity when there is electricity. We had 5 days power outage last year and only on day 2 did the stuff start defrosting in the freezer, and its a average fridge/freezer.

nkandla is full of UPS's and backup generators, so JZee is not aware of load-shedding.:cry:
 
I'm so over this bullshyte.. We were offline from 08h00 this morning till 10h32, and then again from 11h00 till 12h30!! That means in the entire morning we had no power! My sister lives just a couple of blocks away and they have not been load shedded even once this weekend (yes they were home, and would have noticed).

Why the **** can that area stay on, while one other area down the road goes 'dark' for basically the entire morning!?
