Besides, I don’t hope the Soccer WC won’t come to SA (never have). I take a pragmatic perspective. The WC is a fait accompli and I have no control. I hope that the prodigious waste of money and burden on the taxpayer will be mitigated by what is spent in the country.
BUT – more importantly
If WC tourists come, they get a true picture of the country and spread the word in their home countries that the SAn’s weren’t exaggerating – the place is a toilet and as soon as the money runs-out will become another loser African country. On balance, it may be better if they came and returned home as informal ambassadors. Spreading the word (through direct experience) that SA is failing.
I don’t relish SA being a global laughing stock but I have no control. Credible sources have indicated that it will be the most watched televised event in the history of the planet, and I am 100% sure that incompetent mess-ups will happen.
