Hi,

I'm looking at an entry level home office desktop. It's more of a secondary admin deal than anything else so no heavy lifting. Though I'd like at least i3. So I'm good with something off the shelf.

It's been a while since I did any desktop shopping though so does anyone have a recommendation for where to buy?

Does it need to run windows? Is running Linux and using Google docs not an option?

Hi... looking for some advice
I need a new home PC, nothing heavy.
I was looking at standard offshelf dell from takealot (attached)
Before i checkout, i want to know, can i find something similar for a lower price if i use wootware?
I would not have a clue of all the components needed, hence i cannot cost it myself.

Here is a similar custom build from Wootware and it's more upgradeable. Those prebuilt Dells normally use a lot of proprietary parts, their motherboards aren't standard, their power supplies aren't great and upgrading can lead to headaches. You're also gaining an extra 8gigs of memory and a 240 gig SSD drive to speed up your OS, yeah it's not the best out there but it beats not having one.
The custom built I've just thrown together from Wootware + their build cost and their delivery cost will come in at the same price as the above Dell, you're also getting off the shelf parts so you can also upgrade it later if need be.
For Windows 10 license look for Flashgear on here for a decently priced copy.

Looks good.

How would the processing power compare to the i3 intel?

Happy with 16gb ram...

Would i run the OS on the SSD and use the 1tb as storage?

Well the Ryzen will have a better built in Graphics card, actual CPU performance would be relatively the same, the Ryzen you can overclock as well if need be.
You'd run the OS on the SSD and the 1TB would be for other storage yes.
You can save like R60 if you get the SSD from Takealot, but then you'd have to install it yourself.

Thanks for the help Lupus...

I will take your advice instead off buy the takealot pc

Based on the price, i assume Blue is a better performance drive compared to green.
For an additional r500, i think will take the Blue 500gb.
The blue 240gb does not seem worth it.

About the motherboard/processor, if i spend another r500 will i be able to get a 'better' motherboard/processor?

About the case, it looks abit boring, can i look at any case on the site or does the case depend on the motherboard?
