What are decent enameled cast iron pots available in South Africa.

I would love to get le creuset, but the pricing is insane, for something I will use maybe twice a month

Sorry for the thread necro... Not going to start a new one if such a thread already exists.

Has anybody tried out the Eetrite Cast Iron pots yet? Any good?

I just do not have the R2700 to buy a Le Creuset pot.

Well you can re enamel if they start getting worn, so should be able to use them about forever. Im also going this route, buy cheaper range and enamel again after a while. Le creuset is just too bloody expensive!

Yea no way I'm paying Le Creuset prices. I get by fine with a Checkers enameled pot, and if (when) it wears out, I'll re-enamel it.

Aah. Never thought about re enamel. Think I'll get the Eetrite pot tomorrow at about a quarter of the price of Le Creuset.

I got some great ones at the home shop next to incredible corruption in Menlyn(can't remember the name Home Etc I think), half the price of la creuset and I honestly can't tell the difference between the 2.

It's just a shame that Menlyn is such a mess at this stage with the mall being expanded.

Binuns in Menlyn Retail is also a nice spot. Great variety.

Picked up this 26cm / 5.3lt casserole on special for R699 from Binuns. Normal price R895.

Will be cooking a butter chicken soup for 10 people tonight.

Will report back then.

Le Creuset has a lifetime guarantee, and most likely a far superior enamal process than the Chinese pots.

You can find specials all the time. I managed to find a 5.5 qt round Dutch oven from the LC store on special (pine green) for R1600

So used the pot three times this weekend.

Friday night made a butter chicken soup. Amazing!

On Sunday morning wife made vegetable soup for the week for lunch.

Sunday evening I chucked in a bunch of vegetables, whole chicken and some marinade. Popped it in the oven for 90minutes. Best chicken ever!

Cleaning is an absolute breeze. Can literally just wipe it clean with a sponge and soapy water.

Will definitely be getting myself a smaller one as well for sauces.
