Decided Not To Replace Cambelt (Ford Figo)

Yup until you hit a brand specific issue that the obd reader doesn't handle ;)
But yes, you can get most stuff sorted, and if worst comes to worst, pay a dealer to do a diag and give you a quote on everything that needs to be fixed, say thanks, drive home, and start working ;)

like with me; got one of those just to see what it does; fixed my issue but not entirely even sure how;

said replace Throttle position module; replaced it; light went out even though it was still complaining about o2 sensors;
so Im not entirely sure why its now off; the engine light; but its off regardless......

new or old one? id belive one of those golf 2 gti ones;
but newer golfs; one friend told me his golf 5 keeps blowing the taillight bulb; put a new one in blows almost immediately
VW wanted to charge him 850 for a whole new taillight; probably at a scrapyard would have been less but still his car is still quite new and already this;

and its only done like 80000 km's on it;

so Im learning things here;

I believe he has a fairly new one.

A light bulb blowing immediately is most probably caused by an electrical short somewhere.

Other than the intake manifold issue on my Scirocco, which is a known issue, I haven't had any issues. She's currently on 107000kms. I've seen plenty of Golf 5 and 6 GTIs with well over 200000kms on the clock running perfectly fine. Modern cars are just as if not more reliable than old cars. Just ask anyone that has owned a car with points and a condenser instead of an electronic ignition

haha right, this is how you use them:

If you get an engine light - check the codes. Make a note of them
Clear them.
Drive again for a day or two
Check the codes again. Any codes that return need to be addressed by repairing the root cause. Any that didn't may be transient issues caused by, for example, low battery voltage or some contamination in fuel.

Have a coilpack or two spare ;)

Im learning something here; didnt even know how to use those things exactly; just fell a$$ backwards into it........
read a manual and one in chinglish; with lots of references to fuel.......
so if the light off and stays off even though when you scan again for faults it still shows the o2 sensor broken but dosent turn on the engine light

stop worrying about it;

Which oxygen sensor (there are probably 2) and what error?

I've got a Golf 5 GTI.

So there goes your theory.

Also I don't see too many Golf 2's and 3's around.

I would agree with you on modern cheap cars though. Old cheap cars were very well built.

Just to add for folks with old cars/engines: go to scrapyards for missing parts, you can pick up pieces for really good prices and for such things as covers etc its fine.

eish.......

i have a ford fiesta 2008, does anyone experience a problem with gear shifting, esp when i have to select reverse i battle a lot and i find myself double clutching twice or go to 1st gear. its kinda annoying any help>?\

Get the gear linkages checked and adjusted if need be. It's a common problem and a 20 min fix.

Sorry about the super-necro, but my mate's 2011 Figo intake manifold blew. He's being charged around R10k to get it fixed at an independent garage. Does this sound right?

It's a figo, the whole car is not a long term solution ;)

You can take those in to the likes of Plastic rebuilders, etc.

I would hunt around for a replacement from a scrapyard or aftermarket parts dealer first. Sometimes Midas does surprise with the goods they keep in stock.
