Please help, recently got connected to Dstv and everything was fine. Until recently. Having decoder - remote issues, have to leave the tv on for at least 5 minutes before I can start using the remote. Very frustrating!

Is there anyone who can give me step by step instructions to sort this out?

"Decoder not responding to remote"
Point it at the decoder not the TV :)

Won't help you, but remember you can check remote itself by using your phone's camera.
The camera can pick up the ir signal.

Put camera on video mode, and point remote at camera lens, if remote works, you should see it on screen.
Helpful to test if remote is picked up across room, have a helper point from several meters away.

Sorry bout your problems.

Yea, I do not like these automatic updates at all.
Unfotunately there is no way to go back to the older software, so you have to wait untill they update with software that works better.
Then disable the automatic updates!!!

Try Quantum Theory sugestion from this thread

To everyone experiencing this, try the factory reset procedure... Please note that this will change some of your XtraView and RF output settings to default. If you do not know how to change these back to your custom settings, please get your installer to assist.

Here is the procedures for the different models:

(please note that you have to press the buttons on the front panel of the decoder, until you are asked for a PIN)

Pace 4 Tuner:

Press TV guide on the decoder in & hold for 10 seconds
Release then press Exit
Release then press OK
Release & a green screen will appear asking for a pin code (1649)
Select Reset Factory Defaults from the list & confirm

UEC 4 Tuner:

Press TV guide on the decoder in & hold for 10 seconds
Release then press Shift
Release then press Exit
Release then press OK
Release & a green screen will appear asking for a pin code (1649)
Select Reset Factory Defaults from the list & confirm

Pace 2 Tuner:

Press the TV/Audio button in & hold for 10 seconds
Release then press the UHF button
Release then press the Pause/Play button.
Release & a green screen will appear asking for a pin code (1649)
Select Reset Factory Defaults from the list & confirm

Thanks for all the replies (lol @ Kolaval!).

i initially thought it was a faulty remote, but after exchanging it, I'm still having the same problem. So yes, its definitely got to do with the software update then.

Will try Quantum Theory's suggestion, just hope I don't mess the settings up. Any way to check what tuner I have?

Pace 4 tuner, 1st black model that can record 2
UEC 4 tuner, silver
Pace 2 tuner, smaller black model that came out just before Soccer WC, can record 1

yep chances are if you bough it recently its the pace 2 tuner.

Also you lose any series based or future recordings you have set, nothing that you have currently recorded gets deleted so thats good :)

good idea before you follow the steps is go into all the setings menus and take a photo of the screen so once the reset is done you can see what was the set up

Do you have an LCD TV?

If you do, then the problem is that the LCD CFL back lighting emits a lot of infrared (IR) light what it starts up (it is cold). After a minute or two, once it has heated up, the IR emissions drop. So during this initial warm-up stage, the DSTV decoder's IR remote receiver is effectively jammed by the LCD back lighting :) If you go straight up the the decoder, and "shield" IR receiver area (near the 7-segment display) and put the remote up close, it'll probably work.

All the other IR remote receivers on my amp, TV, DVD, etc all work fine... so it is just the DSTV decoder that isn't very well designed (it does not filter out unwanted IR signals). This is a common problem with many set top boxes (cable/satellite) all over the world.

have to restart my decoder about 4 times per day now as the remote stops working... All since the software upgrade. So gatvol of DSTV it's not even funny... -shrugs- Complaining get's you no where though, so what's the point...

This appears to be a very common problem. I'm experiencing it with a DSD 1110 decoder, where it is obvious that the remote is indeed 'talking' to the decoder (because the display on the decoder flickers every time there's a signal from the remote), but nothing happens. It's intermittent, and often disappears (for a while) with a reboot.

Note that, for me at least, the advice above to do a factory reset achieved exactly nothing. Neither does using a different remote. That leaves only either (a) a faulty decoder or (b) faulty software. After reading the forums it seems it's the latter. And it's a pain!!

Yeah factory reset doesnt fix shiddy software. My hdpvr needs a reboot everytime to fix the remote issue

It's not a factory reset for the 1110, it's a flash reset. The ones above are for HD's and is completely different from the factory reset on a 1110. There is a front panel sequence for the 1110. Will post it when I get a chance.

To do flash reset on the 1110 decoder, do the following:

Press Reset. When "dl" flash on screen, press and hold TV/Music and P+ simultaneously. Release the buttons as LED's start to flash.

Okay so I tried blocking out any IR light from the tv, still no luck. A bit hesitant to try anything further, just in case something goes wrong. My husband doesn't have much of an idea either. Does customer care talk you through the steps if you call? Is Dstv even aware of the problem?

Last time i called they advised normal reboot, that dint work they said bring it into multichoice for testing.
Try to reset your self, and if something does go wrong you take it in, but if it does work you dont have to go all the way to MC

An excellent tip, thanks! Seems to have done the trick, so far so good.... Just so that I understand this correctly, have I now returned my decoder to its original factory setting of several years ago, or does it still use firmware/software which might have been updated over the air by DSTV in the interim? If the latter, then the DSTV upgrade which is said to be responsible for problems is still there, niewaar?
