So, yesterday morning i am busy working on my Dell laptop, when the notification bar opens and tells me that there are two Intel updates available. The one being the driver for the graphics (intel 620 or something)

I ran the update and when the laptop rebooted it goes to the Dell logo, and then just a black screen. after a few restarts it went to the recovery screen. I reset the windows, and it started the cleaning process. but even after the recoverty / cleaning it only boots up to a black screen

any ideas on what can be wrong ? it is a Dell i5 3567

I would confirm 2 things, in Bios, can you “see” the HDD/SSD?
then I would press F12 when booting to select from where I want to boot.(Is the disk in the list?)

You can also run the diagnostics, check if everything else is ok.

LOL, never install Intel HD driver updates, even when notified, have had this issue on countless Dell laptops...

Only way to fix this is to open Task Manager when you're on the black screen (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC), go to File -> Run New Task -> Type in "control" and press OK, thereafter Control Panel will open, go to Programs and Features and uninstall the Intel HD Graphics drivers.

After a reboot it should be fine again, then install an older driver version and make sure it's specifically for your chipset, I recommend from Intel's website, not Dell's.
