Dermatologist

The resident one at Constantiaberg Mediclinic is meant to be lank good but apparently she has a year waiting list.. Sorry for the very unhelpful information.

The best one is Dr Whittaker in Newlands... shes head of pretty much every association to do with dermatology.
Also a couple months waiting list though.

@htc....true, but in most cases it is the most effective treatment. I was put on....ag now I can't remember the name, but it is a hectic treatment. It gives u joint pain, ure lips crack, ure eyes burn and gets dry...depression can occur and u have to go for regular liver function tests, but it was worth it. Within a week the imrovement in my skin was amazing. After the treatment my skin (face and back) was clear and it has never returned.

Ah...just remembered, its called roacutane. And if u a womaninz...u have to sign a pledge promising u will use contraception and not fall pregnant as it causes terrible birth defects.

Sounds very similar to what they wanted tp put me on when i was diagnosed with psoriasis, i think there was somthing about not driving heavy machinery aas well, any way fortunately for me mine has gone into remission.

edit: i was to sht1t scared to use the treatment after reading the brochure

My condition was incorrectly diagnosed and I was put on roacutane for 5 months. It was hell. Dry skin, dry eyes, dry lips. I used lots of lotion, eye drops and lip balm.

@ Stickfigure, why not state your problem and we can recommend a dermatologist who is a specialist in that field. Dr Whittiker referred me to Dr Smit in Tygervalley. My condition has gotten better and I just started my last course of treatment to clear my problem which is some type of folliculitus.

Well thankfully I need a dermatologist not because of acne but because of dry scalp. My scalp is extrememly dry at the moment. If I just give it a quick scrath, my scalp flakes all over the place. I know it is definitely NOT dandruff. I've tried using tea tree shampoo and and conditioner but it's not helping at all.

Sounds like psoriasis?

If you find out let me know please, i have been using anti dandruff shampoo without it helping for way too long now.

Had a problem back. Turned out getting regular sun sorts that out ...

My housemate went to a doc at Netcare in Sunningdale. It was successful and she is happy with the treatment and results. If you are in that area I can ask her the name & number.

do you mind me asking what he did? strong meds no doubt...

Im skeptical about these meds that they doll out, they basically poison for your body... but its OK coz it fixes your Acne

He prescribed Oratayne, a very powerful drug, I had to sign a letter to state that I'm aware of side-effects etc. But my teenage son really had a severe case of acne and it was causing psychological problems. So I bit the bullet and we took it. It was a course of capsules for 6 months. And very expensive, but really it was worth every penny.
