Desire S

Haven't looked into it yet, can you upgrade directly from stock without root?

Yes. Download the installation file and run it while your phone is connected via HTC sync. Takes about 10mins to install.

for those who have installed the ruu and experiencing the links issue
if you root there is a line you can edit in build.prop to fix it "apparently"

In my younger day's I would've rooted and played with the settings until it was exactly as I wanted. Now I just want a phone I can switch on knowing it'll do what I need it to do.

Also running the official ICS RUU update, I'm not exactly blown away by it, there still is that typical occasional UI stutter which I don't like at all.

Unless a new fallout version is released soon with the new kernel and, I'll probably stick with this ROM until my next upgrade.

So what is better in ICS compared to Gingerbread when using this phone as an example?
Basically: Is it worth it?

From first impressions I'd say yes. Battery life seems to be a bit longer, the gmail app is significantly better looking, you're able to add / remove home screen pages, it has built in functionality to measure data usage, you can add shortcuts to a "dock" which show on all your home screen pages, notifications are dealt with better and so on. Those are just a couple of things that spring to mind after using it for a few days.

Sounds good, anyone have a mirror to the download? http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads seems dog slow.

i simply dont have the time , which is why i wish htc could fix it and release another ruu

Not being able to open a link directly from whatsapp is the least of my worries. There's an easy workaround - simply copy the link and paste in your browser.

Hi guys, whats the easiest way to root the latest RUU?
Unlock your phone via HTC Dev. Then use Bin4ry program to root. This program takes only one step to root. Worked for me.
Then use Build.prop (download from market) to edit the following line.
ro.da1.enable=true
To
ro.da1.enable=false
Directly under it add the line
ro.da1.method=false
Reboot
Your links should all work fine!

just make sure, is there no way to root without s-off?
if all the person wants to do is fix the links issue. only root is needed

Yes after my HTC Dev unlocking of the bootloader and root via Bin4ry my Desire S is rooted and S-On. The editing of Build.prop works!
