Desire S

Howzit guys,

I can't find the blasted download link to get the RUU from HTCdev.com. The downloads page has disappeared and the link that I've been given (htcdev.com/resources/downloads) just gives me a 404. Would prefer to download it from the official HTC site. Anybody know what's going on?

Also, seems like HTC SA doesn't give a royal eff about their customers trying to get a hold of them on FB. Haven't one one response in days. Apparently all of their retail outlets in Gauteng, Lab88, have closed down? Is LEAF shutting up shop or what?

Thanks.

Ah, awesome, thanks. DL'ing now.

One last question: is it possible to roll back to 2.3.5 if my phone doesn't like 4.0? Would like to go back to a stable OS if I need to.

no official way dude
how old is ur ds?
i rooted and installed the stock ics rom , so that i can load a gb rom if need be
but stock ics with the links issue fixed and the fone is working well man using apex or nova launcher
slightly slower than gb.but nothing terrible

Got the phone in November 2011. Well isn't it possible to download 2.3 from the same HTCdev site and install it over the DL'd ICS ROM?

ics changes the hboot, so it wont just work like that
u might need to do some changes like s-off and changing hboot to get that to work

since you have the phone from nov 2011 by now you know everythings working hardware wise
why dont you root and install the custom rom based on the stock rom?
it seems complicated but its not so bad

So, can anyone confirm that the Desire S on ICS does not have WiFi Direct?

My girlfriend has a Desire S, and I messed around trying to find a WiFi Direct setting, and I couldn't see it anywhere. I was under the impression that WiFi Direct is a software thing, not a hardware thing, and that you get if you have ICS? But why would HTC actively remove a feature?

I was so disappointed. I thought as soon as she got ICS, we would start living a futuristic world, randomly beaming stuff to each other's phones! The future! And now it's all gone...

there is no wifi direct
there is no nfc chip on the desire S, so there will be no beaming either
its still an awesome fone

i rooted and installed the official ics
with only the links issue fixed( via build.prop) edit
and yes its stable
stock launcher is bit laggy, im using apex or nova and works nice n snappy
Anyone installed ICS yet? Is it stable?

ive installed fallout rom
it has wifi direct but im trying to get it to work.its not working
i'l let u know if i get it right
fallout seems quite stable too.everything working fine
Yeah, I know you can't use Android Beam unless there's an NFC chip. But if both phones have WiFi Direct, you can still "beam" stuff from one phone to another, at least in a figurative sense, using apps like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.wifidirect

I am sad this feature isn't present...

I reverted back to 2.3.3 sense 2.1. My phone is brilliantly fast now. I was frustrated with ICS on Desire S.

sense 2.1? wow,..no man thats going backwards
sense 3 android 2.3.5 was nice and fast
if you want to rather root your phone( if its atleast over 1 yr old then u shouldnt have any hardware issues)
install the stock ics rom rooted from xda..it has some tweaks and fixes to make it faster than the ics that htc released

try flinny's cm10.1.... bluetooth is the only thing not working
and camera has a green line on the edge.but otherwise working very nice indeed
even his aosp rom for android 4.2 is nice and stable
Which they would get a fully working JB going.
