Developer Registration in South Africa!

Woohoo! I'm registered at App Hub now. Followed all the steps as required by YallaApps. My chosen name was taken at the forums though and I'm sure it's because I used it at Yalla. Oh well, it's not that bad, just used my real name.

Even worse is the whole tax form thing that one has to send in if I understand correctly. Developing is fine but when it comes to tax related stuff, well I draw a complete blank. Will have a good look at the procedures this weekend.

Yeah annoying but i am sure it has something to do with making sure you have a "valid" credit card account. PayPal does something similar (Luckily for them the value is only a couple dollars)

So, I updated to the Mango beta and used my SA Live ID and the marketplace works, the prices are shown in rands. Except the apps are region locked at the moment so I cant download them. Tried the FB app. Will try the others and see what happens. It's good news though, it means our SA marketplace is coming along nicely!

Edit: Some off the apps are downloadable.

Has that account ever been migrated from another country or was it always SA?

My account was migrated to SA when we got xbox live here. My locale is south africa.

Here's the instructions to get the mango beta without being a developer.

Be warned though that there are very little apps you can download at the moment till the official announcement comes.
Make sure you save your phone backup (the tool does it for you) before you update as you will need to revert back to it to get the proper mango.
The process is pretty easy though and mango is quite nice.

I've played around with it a bit. The text to voice and voice to text is pretty nice.

Edit: Make sure you do the backup with the old zune client. You only need the new one once the mango beta is fully installed.

Very strange that I can't open the marketplace up :-/. Maybe it is blocked for non-mango devices. Did you happen to try the marketplace before putting mango on?

Yes, I tried it out and it said that the marketplace isn't available in my region. Same with the zune software, when Installed the new beta version that works with mango phones and set my pc's region to SA i could access the marketplace from there as well.

So Yalla Apps allow you to download the Mango Beta OS on your phone. The catch is that we won't be able to do this since SA recently got unlocked so they won't help us. We can't get it from Microsoft so I suppose we will just have to wait it out for the full release.

Yeah, but even if they did allow it, it's $50. That's just silly. The option remains to do it how eug did a few posts up.
