Hi All,

this a question to all Dev companies and freelancers. Could be web aps/Dbase admin etc

I have had some feedback on another forum relating to the lack of a local marketplace for companies to source professional local developers.

In a quick summary the businesses say they use getafreelancer/rentacoder.com etc to source developers for small projects.

The developers say there is a need for a similar type site for the local market.

We developed a similar site to the above but changed our focus thinking that this would not be viable in SA. Recently we changed our focus to be on tenders for products, not services/developers.

Now as we are about to go live this option has raised its head again. Since all the code is there already, we could easily configure this into our site (business to developer market place)

I would appreciate feedback from the developers/businesses to gage whether they would see this an option for the local market.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Business would probably be slow to start with, but overall - from both sides of the fence (i.e. both developer & employer) - it should pay dividends.

So my vote would be to go for it ... 8)

Thanks rrh.

This would actually be a part/category of our site that incorporates not just services, but product tenders as well (i.e. I list a quotation request for Sony Bravia LCD model xxx and multiple suppliers would then tender for the business)

Just thinking of adding this category (IT service providers) to the overall site. Feeling the market to see if it would be worthwhile  as we have all the functionality to do it.

Adding that feature to your existing site definitely couldn't hurt. You can give it a set period of time (6 months - 1 year) and see how it performs. If it's not successful you can then always just remove it.

The idea definitely has merit. Your biggest problem will be to create awareness though.
