DGN2200M ADSL Light

Hi guys,

I am in need of your wisdom. I'm currently in the process of getting a 4mb adsl line, everything is going well so far. My line was installed and I completed my adsl self install application on Saturday. I've been told by one lady at Telkom it'll take 48 hrs and 7 working days by another lady. I'm well aware of the various time frames involved in this process from my research but my issue right now is my modem/router.

I have a Netgear DGN2200M router I bought from IC a few years back and what I would like to know is should the adsl light go on when I insert the jack into the router? Or will that only happen once my adsl line has been activated? I'm worried the modem on the router is busted because I would think that the router would pick up that a jack has been inserted in it especially when there is a dialing tone.

I had the exact same problem and worry when I installed the same router at a client, in my case the light does not come on at all if the line is not active, the lined turned out to be faulty Telkom came out and fixed it and the light went on and synced, I would not worry about it if I was you.

What version is your 2200? V1,V3....

Definately a DGN2200M,, is there supposed to be like a usb dongle thing that I attach the 3g stick to cause plugging in the back aint working.

edit: Looks like I am missing a docking station for this thing, damn.

I think the correct model with 3g failover is the DGN2200M. If you want to get the 3g to work you need to check on netgears website which 3g modems are compatible. I bought a Huawei E1820 from 8ta and I had to flash the firmware to the stock firmware from Hawei for it to work. It doesnt work with 8ta's firmware.

Thx Krazye, I have to sticks a CellC E1820 and a 82ta E367.
Both are listed as ok, but i see on the netgear site the modems are listed although the 1820 is not with cellc.
8ta Huawei E367 huawei.com mtn.co.za
8ta Huawei E1820 huawei.com mtn.co.za
ETC Huawei EC1261 huawei.com ethionet.et
CellC Huawei E372 huawei.com cellc.co.za
CellC Huawei MF190 huawei.com cellc.co.za

A doof question if I may, do you plug it in straight in the back of the router or use docking station. I vaguely remember (maybe) a usb type docking station with mine but 'F' knows where that is now lol :)

You dont need the docking station, its just an extension reallly. I have used the modem connected directly to the router and it works. If the model is listed on the netgear website but not the isp, then you will have to flash the firmware, but try it first.

Thanks Sneeky, I checked on my adsl application and apparently there was a problem at the exchange but they sorted it out today, so I'll be able to check properly when I get the sms.

Thanks to everyone who contributed, I finally got my 4meg adsl running. Still havent received Telkom's sms...lol...go figure...im using fnb's uncapped account, its good for everything except p2p. They said p2p is restricted but they actually mean non existent. Im going to look for another isp, i hear afrihost is quite but ima loose out on the fnb discounts :(
