Diabetes runs in my family.

My dad (before he was diagnosed with type 2) I know got up in the middle of the night went to the toilet and got so thirsty that he had to literally cut in midstream to actually go drink something and then go back to the loo.

Now I'm not sure but in the last few days I have had a thirst. For instance, I finished 4 cups of water right now and I already am starting to feel "Dry mouthed"

I don't go to the toilet as much (because since school I've learned to control it, can feel when its full and when I need to go though)

Is this a sign of diabetes? do I need to exhibit all the signs or just some?

Oh, and I sit down to pee

Its a sign...but its very far from conclusive evidence.

Go to a (well-equipped) GP...they've got one of those machines that can test for diabetes with a finger prick (or whatever its called). Full blown blood test will probably be more accurate.

Firstly, over-hydrating yourself can cause serious problems, so don't do it. You should maybe try drinking something other than water (try Powerade) that has eloctrolyte in it. And four glasses of water in one go is not such a good thing. Try spread it out.

The test that Havoc is referring to is one of several. Your doctor should be able to administer the tests, or at least refer you to pathologists or someone that can. One of the tests will be the fasting oral glucose tolerance test. This involves you fasting for at least 8 hours beforehand and then drinking a glucose solution (It's gross... Sugar water was never my thing). They then take a few samples of blood at regular intervals for testing (about every 2 hours or so).

As I understand, this test is sufficient to diagnose (or exclude) diabetes in all but the most immature cases.

Thanks for the info. The cup of water is about 180ml (one of those water cooler cups so not very big)

I have about the normal 2-3 litre water per day (Remember I live in Dubai so it gets quite hot)

Will try and schedule an appointment with the doc.

My aunt has been diagnosed with lung cancer a few weeks ago, my grandad had / died of it as well. All on my fathers side incl high blood pressure.

I'm not sure but I think I might want to quit my job and become a fisherman or something just for the **** of it. Stress less etc

Urban Myth. Drinks like powerade, energade, lucozade, gatorade and whatever "ade" it might be is simply sugar or non nutritive sweetner (Game) and salt, water and permitted flavourants and colourants. (Try the blue powerade, and enough of it and you'll be crapping blue turds. That's the colouring for you...
2-3 liters is fine as a basic average in hot climates. The 6-8glasses of water per day for the average person is nonsense. We should be drinking a couple of liters.
Our bodies are mostly water and most of us walk around in a perpetually dehydrated state without even knowing it. I think as someone said before by the time you feel thirsty you are already seriously dehydrated. Most people should be drinking structured alkaline water which is simply reverse osmosis water (you lose an electron every glass of RO water you drink) so you add sodium chlorite to replace that balance and take mineral supplementation to replace everything that has been stripped by the RO.
People who overhydrate drink plain water which causes their cells to hemmorage and this can be deadly, but if salt is consumed, then this removes the danger of overhydration.
Water from soft drinks, coffee, beer, etc actually dehydrates.
In this country, there's a real stigma attached to water. Most people cannot stand the taste of just water so that explains all the flavoured junk out there. But your body needs water, good clean water and lots of it and a lot more than you think.

I'm confused... What's the myth?
