Hey there and thanks for reading this thread.

I recently started playibg Diablo again and found the motivation to complete inferno on my monk. After doing that I spent pretty much all the gold I had on upgrading my gear (was basically carried through Act4 inferno since I was dead for most of it).

I read the diablo forums and came to the conclusion that I need to get the 4pc of the inna's set. All good and well. I managed to get some budget pieces (under no illusion that is close to being good). I then looked at the profiles of some other players and upgraded the rest of my items as well.

Now here is my problem. My DPS according to the char sheet has indeed increased by a lot. I know die to a mob just looking at me. My resist and HP dropped so much its scary. If I am lucky enough to dodge most hits I kill stuff so fast they dont even register on my screen (mp0... baby steps...).

What am I misunderstanding? What stats should I be aiming for? Before getting the new gear I focused mostly on Dex, Vit and Lightning Resist (was cheapest at the time and I used OWE). The Inna's set has next to no resists on it which is clearly the reason why I die so easy. How does the other monks do it?

For me to move to lets say mp4/5 what stats should I have to be comfortable enough to survive and kill at a decent rate?

One last question...
People talk about having 500k dps. Where do you measure that? On the ingame inventory screen? If yes then how the hell do you reach dps that high???

Hi!

First post a link to your profile, that will greatly help to see where you are lacking.

To get a "paper" dps of 500k is really really hard. For a monk a MAJOR part of our dps comes from Sweeping Wind which wont show up on your sheet.

Therefore, what some people do to get a more accurate reflection on what their dps is they go kill Azmodan and time how long it takes from the 1st hit. You can see how much HP he has and therefore you know what your true dps is.

Yip, give us a profile link

As a vague indication for MP4/5 you want
Lifesteal (or 750+ life on hit)
75k+ dps - this is a bare minimum for key farming and getting lifesteal going. If you want to do item farming you actually want MP0-2 depending on certain skills choices/playstyle
325k eHP - which roughly equates to 35k HP, 600 res, 4000 armour.

yeah please post a link to your profile. i've got a feeling your resists are way too low:)

personally i think you just need 35k dps (for a momnk) if you need to farm. provided you have sweeping wind as well as decent life on hit

Ok lets begin...

In my opinion, the full Inna's set is one of the last things you get. The DPS it gives you isnt that great, survival is poo compared to most other options, and the set bonus at 3 and 4 isnt that great unless you are tempest rushing 24/7 like me.

So the pieces that need to give you 70 res (or more with OWE) are shoulders, bracers, helm, boots. Thats 280 res at least. Then on gloves, belt, and one or two rings, 50 res, so thats another 150 for a total of 430
Vit - you'll want pants with 150+ vit (dont go for all res here, a high vit roll is more beneficial). Chest is another place to look for 150+ vit, or 80 vit with some res. I find replacing the chest with a high vit blackthornes is the best survival option. Add in some vit (or life %) everywhere else that you can. Then I've got almost 200 vit from paragon levels which you will need to squeeze in somewhere. You may need to sacrifice some DPS stats on some slots to do this
Bonus armour is a nice to have stat, but you get it (eventually) on nats boots, inna belt and vile ward anyway, so dont prioritise this stat

So basically, you're going to need a big overhaul where you swap out 3 or more items at once. I think the belt (with lighting res), bracers (all res and/or lightning), low end nats boots (or any boots with similar stats) is a good place to start. Then try get vit on the pants. Vit on the amulet will also likely be a cheap upgrade (look for 40 average damage instead of your 50 crit damage. You wont lose damage, and its much much cheaper)

yeah your resist just wont cut it man:) try use matra of healing (time of need). gives you a 20% boost of resistances as well as decent life regen. but 18k life on inferno? haha no ways man, you need more vitality :)get rid of your shenlongs fist of legend. you can find something far more hectic for cheap. keep the other one for the life on hit.

Ditch that full innas set. At your level to get what you need out of them is going to cost way too much.

I'll add you when I have a chance and see what I have lying around and we can chat a bit in game if you like. I used to be a lightning resist monk before I dropped OWE so I think I got some gear that will be right up your alley.

What I would also probably do for now is aim for a slightly lower MP and maybe pick up some cheapish mid end gear with Magic Find. Gain up a few plvls and then at the same time move up MP while dropping a bit of MF.

Cool, thanks for all the advice. I have about 5 mill gold left after buying that so I will see what I can get now. I will then farm mp0 some until I have the gold to buy some more upgrades. I play the game casually at most so waiting a month or two wont kill me. I just want a decent char by the time an expansion gets released.

Just managed to buy a Fist of Az'Turrasq by sniping a bid at less than a min left. Not on purpose but lucky I guess. The stats on it is as follows:
1012.5 DPS
173 Min Damage
371 Max Damage
42% Damage
291 Dex
79 Vit
Attack Speed 10%
Spirit Regen 1.15
4.7% Chance to Stun

Is this an upgrade over the MH Shenlong I had?

EDIT: To answer my own question... Not really. My DPS increases on my char sheet but I feel like my damage is lower. I assume this is due to the crit damage?

I use a defense build here with my gear and do mp4+ fine and quick but prefer mp3 :D

My Stats:
2156 Dexterity
46465 Health
50306.95 Damage
22.50% Crit Hit Chance
327% Crit Hit Damage
57.8% Dodge
57.92 Damage Reduction
500+ Resist to All
1045 Life Per Sec
493 Life Per Hit

I use Blackthorne's Pants and Chest for Health bonus and everything else has all resist and sometimes crit damage/chance

My Monk has similar stats... yet at MP4 I draw the line atm. What is wrong with my monk?

Probably if you go the defense build I made it will be easier and you need to upgrade a few pieces of armor for resist and weapons (Main Hand needs more dps and Offhand needs more crit damage)

Skills - Rune
Way of Hundred Fists - Blazing Fists
Blinding Flash - Faith In The Light
Breath Of Heaven - Blazing Wrath
Serenity - Peaceful Repose
Mantra Of Evasion - Backlash
Mystic Ally - Air Ally

Passives
Combination Strike
The Guardian's Path
Transcedence

I will give that build a try tonight.

My AR is 550 and my DPS is higher than yours.

Also LS 2.8 and LoH of around 900.

Crit chance of 42% and Crit Dmg of 280%

Perhaps I just suck :p:o

I usually crit 300k here.

Whats your dodge? I usually also have 69k dps to 120k buffed.

I crit around 280k.

Will have to look at dodge.

Unbuffd DPS is +-65k.

I will try your build tonight. Ps what is your IGN then I can add you.

Mine: Anexia #2289

Haha, ok.

When I change the passive skill from +50% of Dex as armour to +15% dodge chance while dual wielding, my dmg reduction drops from 59% to 52% and my dodge chance goes up from 42% to 50.5%....

1) Which is better.
2) Why does my dodge chance not go up with 15% but only with +- 8%?

Just use a website to check your EHP with each one active. d3rawr.com is nice.

My monk:

240k+ DPS
2.4 APS
56% CC
452% CHD
44% Dodge
507 RA
45k+ life
5% Lifesteal
650 LPS
4500 Armour
+25% MS
