Hi everyone, I am planning to get a 56K dialup plan from @Lantic next month, but the thing is I am so confused with Telkom's Infinitecall Plan!

Ok, first of all, can someone tell me if the Infinitecall service considers an 086 number (of @Lantic) as a local number? (I am staying in a very little town in Free State, I don't know if calling 086 number will be counted as a local number.)

Secondly, does the infinitecall service actually have a monthly fee now? GAY, I use to use the R7 (7pm-7am) service back in the days, and I don't think there was a monthly fee for that.

Thanks!

yeah i also have the same q and the 1-1 service is the download speed slow?

086 numbers are sharecall. 086 000 7249 is the sharecall dialup number for ISPs in South Africa

Sharecall numbers count as local numbers from a landline :)

Dunno bout question 2 dude,I havent used dialup in yars.

I can however say expecting fast speeds on dialup is like hoping for blood from a vampire bat. 4-8kb/s sound slow? 56kbps ( theoretical maximum dialup speed, converted to kb/s is 7kb/s )

That R7 deal thing costed R48/month last time I checked

Dialup usually means they will pretend it's cheap and then hit you through the cost of the call. Go cellular if you can. Even GPRS is faster.

I had to check the date of this post. Dial up? Really?!?
I've got some wood, and a blanket, perhaps smoke signaling is faster ;)

InfinitCall does have a monthly fee and speeds on dialup are pretty horrid. We mostly connected at 48Kbs, so rarely got more than 15Mb/hr. Considering that we were online most days, this translated to approximately R350/month. On 384K/3Gb ADSL for about R400, we're getting an average of 100MB/hr. It's horrible to have no viable alternative than dialup.

One of the wireless routes is way faster and probably cheaper depending on how often you use the internet

i actually feel physically ill looking at that speed, when I go home im gonna go give my adsl router (syncing at 4Mb) a high 5 for just being so f@#$%* awesome :D

Only 100MB/h????

You are supposed to get around 137MB per hour, working at 39KBps average.
