When JubJub was freed from his mangled Mini Cooper, the first thing he did was reach for his cellphone to make a call, showing no concern for the children killed and injured in the crash.
Muzi Nzuza was one of the first people to arrive on the scene of the crash on Protea Boulevard in Protea Glen, Soweto. He helped push JubJub's Mini off its side and back onto its wheels so the trapped occupants could be freed.
"We (other people on the scene) held and helped each other to turn it," Nzuza said, describing how JubJub and a woman then climbed out of the car.
"They looked very shocked. And they both immediately took out their cellphones to make calls," he recalled, remarking on their lack of concern for the children.
"He made me very angry. I was kicking myself for helping him to get out of the car. He does not care about other people, he cares about the car. So why should we care about him? We were helping him out of the kindness of our hearts. He did not show concern for the children who were lying there dead," Nzuza said angrily.
He had witnessed the drag racing on Monday afternoon. A short while later he heard the screeching of tyres and a crash.
"They race in the township and they know there are children. They deserve to rot in jail. I will never forgive him. He is selfish," Nzuza said.
He said JubJub was on the phone for 20 minutes, making comments that led him to believe the hip-hop star was talking to his insurance company. Only when the call ended did he go and look at the bodies of the dead pupils.
Nzuza said the woman who was in the car with JubJub - an actress who used to have a prominent role in a local drama series - phoned her father and told him she had been involved in an accident.
"I think her father came to pick her up, because she disappeared," Nzuza said, adding there had been three occupants in the blue Mini Cooper driven by Themba Tshabalala.
"One of them had blood on his face," he said.
Nzuza said a pap and meat meal was left in JubJub's car.
Another witness, who had been nearby when the race started, said he heard JubJub shout "Let's go" before they all got in the two Minis. He saw them take off and drive straight through a stop street.
