Amazing to me that almost everyone here agrees SR is stupid etc, yet almost everyone on the road fails to STOP at a STOP sign, or obey the speed limit.
In my area, I must be the only person who STOPs - it has gotten to be so bad that cars seldom even slow down at STOPs anymore - to the point that at a two way stop where I have "right of way", I find myself stopping just to check that some small dicked "box" is not going to jump the stop street.

Nope I think they idiots, all racers who drink and drive, take drugs and drive are just asking for trouble!!
I can also imagine street racing in Soweto... lots of drunk people many spectators going crazy for the cars. In that sort of environment its just asking for trouble...
Street racing is dangerous I agree but only when its a bunch of idiots showing off and being stupid. It also happened in Woodmead couple of years ago... father and son were killed, why take your kids to an event that has no control and is obviously dangerous??
I race alot, but we all have some sort of respect for other racers when we in our cars, when we out of the cars we can show off!! :p
Also a celeb is involved so expect alot more publicity than usual.

It will be argued that getting into a vehicle, racing at high speed while under the effects of drugs and alcohol showed an intent to disregard the consquences of their actions, death of anyone who got in the way included.

If you are on a a track, fine, if you are at a proper street racing event , fine, if you bust onto a private airfield and go runnnig, also fine BUT DON'T SIT THERE AND PROMOTE STREET RACING WHILE IT KILLS INNCOCENT LIVES! If your going to spend that much money on a car, get into the sport properly. Or do carting or something.

Street racing is dangerous period.
Street racing is also illegal.

I could care less for the drivers but as we see here the drivers walk away and four pedestrians are gone.

And who decides what is reckless? It won't be you.

As a disclaimer, I'm not saying I don't do it, but I also know its illegal when I'm doing it - even when the roads are empty of all cars. AND lately I don't really do it know that I've discovered track events, no fines, no cops, no trouble (except my clutch)
 
I've openly admitted before that I really just don't get it.... but what the hell difference does it make that my car is faster than yours, or accelerates quicker than yours? There is another car out there that is even faster anyway so you are never going to have the biggest dick so why bother?

The laughable part is that most of these idiots also put spoilers etc on their vehicles and then have to drive around the neighbourhood at 20km/h as they do not want to risk scrapping their little treasured possessions on the speed bumps or damage their low profile tyres on the pot holes. Stupid I tell you, just stupid.

Turn the vehicle around and then reverse? So you'd be heading in the same direction - but just in reverse? Think that falls under wreck-less, and I think there is probably a law about the direction of your car.

Probably the same reason that runners do sprints, swimmers do laps, rugby players play rugby, F1, etc ,etc.
