Apple design their SOC processors - Samsung manufacture them.

Samsung do use their own processors in their flagship devices - The Exynos SOC.

As has been stated, Apple design their own SoC's, Samsung currently manufacture them for Apple but that may change in the future depending on commercial contracts etc etc...

Samsung design the Exynos SoC and manufacture it, but they don't use it exclusively in their flagship phone, they also use a SnapDragon SoC from Qualcomm.

It's understandable for Apple to outsource manufacturing to Samsung. It's baffling for Samsung to buy off-the-shelf SOCs from Qualcomm, and worrying for the state of Exynos.

Agreed...

I do wonder if its not a yield issue with the Exynos SoC though?

@genetic

stand corrected, they do use their own chip-sets, though it is not on majority of their devices.

@cerebus its a funny sate of affair, as ToxicBunny pointed out, its all about the Benjamins.

None the less, its funny that Apple have samsung at their core [And samsung do not.] " no pun intended"
( lol, i hate it when people use that expression)
