hey all, it's time for an upgrade, i need a dx gfx card, but i'm stuck at a cross road! should i go for the ati hd2900xt 512mb or the nvidia 8800 gts 320mb??? they are more or less the same price

dude its totally up to you hey, either should work just fine

the 2900xt does have some driver issues which might be fixed or might not be

if they do fixed it will own the gts 320 meg, ive read quite a few posts from ppl who have a 2900xt and they have only good things to say

if u can get for the same price, get ATI

Though they're both really good card, if u can get a good deal on the gts then get the gts :p

All depends on u

The gpureview 8800GTS is the 640MB one, sells for roundabout R5000,
so then maybe the 512MB 512bit Radeon is not a bad choice (I've never owned ATi before, though)

If they were the same price, I'd say the 2900XT, but isn't the 8800 around R3000 (computersonly.co.za I've been told) and the 2900XT is R4000.

Of course on paper that R1000 should be worth it, 512kb bus, 512MB and nice clocks. It doesn't make sense...

A 1gb version will be released of the HD2900XT. It's only about R1000 more expensive. Save for one month extra and get that one

Will that really be worth it? I don't think the 2900XT suffers from any bottlenecks with RAM or bus.. it's just got issues. I wonder if 1GB is needed, wait for the benchmarks with that card to see if theres a real increase.

Ja 2.1Ghz memory.. but I still think it would suffer the same problems as the normal card, that R1000 will just put you in the same league as 8800GTX's which would make it a worse buy?

It'll definitely look cool though.. fastest specs on the planet, just for kicks :/

its up to you iv got an gigabyte 8800 GTS 320mb and its super!!! the ATI drinks power and gives off alot of heat!! and you gonna have to buy yourself a new powersupply because it needs alot of power!

How do you know he will need a new psu?? He hasn't stated which psu he has.

ATI is the faster card if you want the card to last for a bit longer go with the ATI if you aren't bother and will be upgrading again within a year anyway get the 8800.

stefan have u seen alot of the benchies for both cards?

not to much to choose

some games ati is better some games nvidia better, sometime ati better with more af and aa sometimes nvidia

dont think this card will last longer than the gts 320 or gts, it all comes to personal choice not what is better

what we know about the ati card
you need a 550-700 watt psu
its run really hots
its got big driver issues
some games it performs so badly some games it performs really well
(who wants a card that your not sure which games will run well and which wont)

what we know about nvidia
runs hot but not as hot as ati
only need a good 450watt psu
no driver issues
runs well in every game

hmmm yes go buy
