Network Status

Browsing should be fine now.
Other business protocols should be better too.
Busy on P2P. (Rapishare, Torrents etc.)

1) Accounts
From today onwards, payments for packages are valid for a calendar month i.e. payment for a package today will expire on the same day -1 next month and not at the end of the current calendar month anymore.

2) Speed issues.
We are aware of the speed issues. We have identified problems and are dealing with them. It is related to the way we currently allocate bandwidth are we are adjusting this.

Jan 13th 2010
New shaper definitions have been loaded.

This has helped us correctly categorise protocols. e.g. torrents, browsing etc.
It put a whole lot of strain on some protocols while helping others. We've gone through a 24 hour cycle with minor tweaking to re-adjust these benefits.

Torrents should be better than before.
RS will not be bursting to full line speeds anymore. Sorry. But it won't be impacting on browsing etc either. We will adjust these protocols on demand and availability within the network.
Our time-based shaping still needs to be fully implemented.
Funny things like Shareza, emule, donkey etc, will now get off the mark but will be treated like torrents.
Gaming should be pretty much better. Any feedback on SL and Xbox, PS3?

We will be doing some more adjustments over the next few days to improve overall performance.

Dave, I can see that torrents still seem to be shaped or managed quite heavily still.... any ideas when this might be lifted, or is your network kind of in its final state of management now?

Hi Dave

Im new with DC and have a few questions for you if you dont mind:

1) What is the avg download speed for Torrents on the 256kbp package(384ADSL line) presently?
2) How does your shaping work and who is affected?

Thanks...WE BELIEVE IN YOU

I would also love to find out what others experience in SL. The other threads didn't look too promising on that field, and last time I tested it (before Christmas) it was really bad.

We have requested for SL to be crippled on DC...

We're doing you a public service and forcing you to experience FL first.... :p

After struggling for ages with telkom my net is up and "running"...
From the 15th of december when i paid DC untill yesterday, i havent even used DC to download or browse, and now when its up Im faced with slowwww speeds....

Murphy's law sucks

Here is some feedback from a test user:

The last 3 + days have been great.

Http browsing, local and international = OK
Streaming Audio = OK
Streaming Video = OK, not quite using full 384 line speed
Torrents = heavily throttled

Service from Dave and his team has been great IMO. I have received replies to my questions, and when experiencing an issue, it has been resolved.

Earlier today I made my payment for the mild package. I believe I will get my money's worth. I use Rapidshare paid account, and get full 384 line speed most of the time.

I don't game, but some of the other applications I use that use funny ports, are not performing as well as HTTP. I believe this is a work in progress, but will have to get official word from Dave.

Can anyone else comment about the speeds of nzbs on the mild or spicy account with a 4mb line and an international news server (newsdemon, astraweb ect...) ?

Ha ha ha, here I thought SL was something important like Service Level! hehehe

excellent dude...doing a constant 60-70 KB not sure of the speed off peak but i've done som GB's today. I'm signing up!

Even with the downtimes, speed issues....i've done almost 100GB international, that's R3/GB. what a bargain!

Thanx Forge

1) Average should be about 20kB/s during the day on a Spicy and more later. We're not there on this yet.

2) Shaping is complicated. Protocol shaping. User shaping. Pool management. Virtual Channel management etc.

Ta

Well currently I'm having some trouble with my Torrents downloading at 5.0Kbps on the 256 package...(only 1 torrent on uTorrent)

Torrents = heavily throttled (How heavy?)
