Neotel = wireless
Digichilli = adsl

It's a key difference. I'm giving digichilli a few more weeks before i decide. If they want their 40 million investment to reap some rewards they will have to get their network running 100%.

40 million = big motivator

From where i'm sitting, it'll come right once all the pieces are together.

The following is not snake oil, and will in fact make a big dfference:

1. Shaping hardware installed, but not yet setup.
2. Caching yet to be implemented.
3. Local newsserver.
4. Turning on of package speed limits.

My local seems to be acting up badly. "Connecting"...... "connecting" ..... and then now and then timeout.
 
to be honest rapidshare works 100% but i am not a download I want to game and listen to streaming music and can't do that right now. Will give chilli till month end then gonna have to leave and come back later perhaps...
 
I can't understand why Digichilli is getting so much slack? You people must be out of your mind. Go read the Screamer thread on page 1 to the end. They pulled the same stuff on launch and they got hammered!

To get this straight, Dave and company have been very nice, giving feedback, being hell of a guys all round...so then it is ok to take your money and not provide you a service? All in the name of teething problems...Guys, CON MEN IS ALSO VERY NICE AND VERY HELPFULL! They also take your money and promise you the world. That is the art of con-men, 101!


I have read these threads, this one, the monster Digichilli one, some of the smaller ones, the SAOL one the Screamer one...even the forums on Digichilli.

WOW, f@cking WOW is all I can say! My most favourite line is this one: "So we have tried unshaped, and it just does not work."

Hello, SAOL is unshaped, Screamer is unshapped...and hey, they are working (even the screamer one from what I understand). Downloading single thread HTTP at full speed. Doing torrents at full speed, grabbing from news servers full speed. Unshapped and uncapped...

What do these people know that Digichilli don't?

What gets me down is however everyone in this forum saying please support these people...and it is the exact same people that blasted Screamer! Unreal!:mad:
 
I agree about this whole shaped thing. If SAOL and Screamer can provide unshaped uncapped, then why cannot DigiChilli? Unless DigiChilli can give us an unshaped uncapped account and not this "unshaped doesnt work" rubbish.

Rapidshare is also dead so not to sure what is going on anymore.

More and more people seem to be getting upset at the fact that it's not working even 10% yet.

Afrihost = 100% bandwidth.

DigiChilli = 0. Can't even browse this site.

People are are complaining and welcome to. People are nicer here, because there is constant interaction with DC. It's just the insults that are not needed.

The insults...are not needed. They have stated that you must simply say you want your money back.

Hello, SAOL is unshaped, Screamer is unshapped...and hey, they are working (even the screamer one from what I understand). Downloading single thread HTTP at full speed. Doing torrents at full speed, grabbing from news servers full speed. Unshapped and uncapped...

They are a startup. It's a learning curve. They will get to where Screamer is. Both use BCS. The problems were similar.

No one says "please" support them. Spend your money where you like. No one is holding anyone hostage.

Everyone is watching and waiting or participating in their launch, which was a month early, but will, in my opinion, be working well, by the original launch date of Jan.

Those who blasted Screamer are welcome to do so to DC too. No need for insults, though.
 
Well one thing which is yet to be implemented is the 512kbps burst limit. Many of the 4 meg guys are downloading at 400K/s. This is not happening at saol.

Saol have also got local caching which helps the speed of their network.

Those two things alone will make the world of difference to digichilli.
 
first off DC is R100 cheaper and that for me means everything.....

secondly Screamer had the worst ''help center'' that I have ever dealt with....all they could ever tell me was change your DNS and when I told them I had and that it made difference they would take my number and tell me that an engineer would call me back.....I am still waiting.....

DC at least keep updating and the service I have had from Dave and Hilly is fantastic.....so yeah I will stick it out.....

I suggest you refer to Makhulu_Chilli's post earlier in this thread. Right now their international link is running at 100% utilization (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=3450224&postcount=369). Therefore they cannot give completely unshaped access, because they will need to increase their international bandwidth (and likely IPConnect links) first. Of course, this means they will have to raise the cost of each package.

In a situation like that the only way to manage access so that each user gets at least something is for some sort of network management, which delivers different QoS to different types of accesses.

The other ISPs have got capped accounts as well. Grandma that only uses 500MB of email, or the WoW player with a 5GB account helps to offset some of the costs to provide the guy that downloads 24/7 at full line speed. They have their access patterns average out over the course of a month. If you're paying for a link anyway, you may as well have full usage of it by a few rather than leave it idle, just as long as you don't have TOO many of those users.

This is also the reason IS gives 4Mbps speeds at night. A lot of their users are businesses, which runs from 6:00 to 18:00. In the night all those accounts are idle, freeing up an enormous amount of bandwidth for them. They then sell essentially night-time accounts to ensure the links are not idle, and to make some extra income on an asset they have otherwise idle.

Well for R50 more you get a working connection at SAOL...but hey, Digichilli are great guys...if you don't mind not having internet at all...:p
