Haha - well it should increase it if you're getting speeds like I am, which are super slow. Didn't think of it like that :p I was talking about theoretically in terms of full line speed and the impact of shaping.

Aah ok, if it goes any slower it wont be worth it for me anymore.

512 line from telkom

If i have a 512 line from telkom and subscribed to DC 384 package, will this help keep a constant download speed...?

Im a bit new to Internet as my brain dead parents never believed in it.
Any advise for a N00B???:

Thanks MC. How will you notify the people of whats happening when tomorrow? E-mail?

The network Change is scheduled for 13:15.

Yes, in the middle of the day, but the urgency is high.

You will get notified on the forum, e-mail, the DC website etc.

There will be a very short outage as the routing tables are update, but like for about 5min.

The network status on the DC website is update in real time (red, amber, green).

Regards,

DigiChilli

Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaammmmm!!!!!!!!!!!
Please :)

The biggies are the steam client ports (first section) and I suppose (shooting myself in the foot) the "* TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)" could be treated the same as a torrent.
the rest should be low bandwidth stuff..

The ports:
Steam Client
* UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
* UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
* TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
* UDP 4380

Dedicated or Listen Servers
* TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

Additional Ports for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer
* UDP 1500 (outbound)
* UDP 3005 (outbound)
* UDP 3101 (outbound)
* UDP 28960

+1 For this.
I can play Team Fortress 2 for about 15mins then I timeout all the time and I also cannot connect to the Steam community. Although the latency is 20ms lower than my Telkom ADSL account!

+ 1 for me

+3 for 3 other friends of mine on DC and using steam for COD MW2

I'm assuming after this network change, I'll be able to log into steam or play some of my other online games?

Currently this is not functioning at all. A capped account of mine is making it further in one of my games authentication processes than a DC account. :p

As far as preferences go, the following would make me happy:

Stable, low latency gaming.
Streaming video/audio at full package speed.
Responsive web browsing

As for downloads, I'm not interested in downloading the whole internet, but when I do download something I'd like to get it done as fast as possible.

Hope the update goes well MC, look forward to seeing how things work afterwards. :)

+1 Can't log into steam at all today, yesterday I kept timing out.

ok, this last update from Makhulu is a promising one. I will be holding my breath until tomorrow afternoon ;-)

Hmmm...bit concerned this might slow down my HTTP downloads (which have been perfect so far) but am willing to hold judgement till the actual changes are in place.

Here's hoping it's a change entirely for the better.

Well while you guys are unlocking Steam for "full" access why not the other services like Impulse or EADM? Dont be selfish and only unlock Steam a lot of people (including myself) use the above mentioned services :).

Well personally, I want more to the news servers. Or well not more, the way they are currently running for me is fine, since yesterday I've been getting some excellent speeds on my 384 line from astraweb
