OK last night speeds picked up again to full 384k in fact it is running around 512k speed, which is exactly what they promised, so well done.

But speed is not as high as before so seems like the shaper works now, which i dont mind the speed as it is how they advertise it, and im happy with that, however FTP still doesnt work.

Worth it to sign up yet?

If you expect a frustration free service, then the answer is not yet. But in saying that most users are able to download quite a lot, but it is kinda random. Perhaps wait a little longer.

Hi Dave & all

Got back from holiday at about 12:50am this morning. Haven't used my Digichilli account for more than a week was hoping for a nice early xmas present when i get back. I thought things would have atleast been better on the network but heres what i have:
Http downloads - 3kb/s
torrents - 0kb/s
news server - 1kb/s at most every once in a while otherwise 0kb/s
streaming video - Takes a leap year
steam - Doesn't even connect
gtalk/msn/skype - Doesn't connect struggles, might connect on the odd chance here and there.

I was kinda hoping DC would be usable before the new year :( Or maybe its just my account because its been like this since launch time for me :(

I finally got my best view of this company and it is not a good one... Go have a look at what they on the 17th...and like magic now it is suddenly an issue, so big that they have to ban people...

That makes them lairs and no matter how Dave and company goes on about being users, maybe he must remember this: You stop being a user the morning you took people's money for a service, then you became a service provider...Maybe you should just remember that...

From now on however, every update they give, remember your bit of salt as well!

But isn't this what they are discussing as to why 4meggers are going ape on a 384 package:

I saw some brief improvements at the end of last week, got my hopes up. But now I'm back to celebrating when I get 5KB/s downloads :p

Dave, since your local runs on SAIX, is one able to use Telkom's news server? I've seen reports of IS being used by some of the guys but haven't (personally) been able to connect to either of the two.

Nope..... but DC is working on a solution.
They won't allow us on since we don't pay them for it, or at least that's the simplest explanation.

Update: It seems now that local ftp is also lagging behind.... from maybe midnight-ish, I reckon. My Linux won't update now at all (or it does, but at 450Bps).

Whatever they tried to do last night, did not work, they broke the network again. From after 11 the speed started going up and down, and this morning downloads is not working. I have been trying for the last couple of days to download an update for my router, no go. This morning i am getting a full 136 bytes. Sites looks ok, but downloads and torrents.......:(:(:(

My browsing is good, local browsing is really good .. i can see torrents take a backseat on weekdays during work hours.

Skype, MSN and Gtalk is dead (or just about dead)

HTTP international downloads (Drivers) are still very slow 2KB/s
Local HTTP downloads (Drivers) are also slow 5.5KB/s

Downloads are all single tread

It seems they just cant get their balancing right between surfing and downloads. Yesterday downloads was good, but not http downloads, but surfing was slow and problematic. This morning surfing is good, but for the rest...

Also think they must seperate the different line speeds, and manage them sepetately. And the max line speeds must be locked for each package. Forcing the 4 mb guys to use the top package to get max speed. I would assume that the majority of users is on 384, and it is also us that is suffering the most with speed issues.

And i think it is difficult to shape all these different line type in a fair way. I think they must aslo start allocating specific ports for different download apps, may make management easier, and if a torrent is picked up on the wrong port, block it.

I think at some point we/they need to give us an exact indication of the abuse they are talking about, I for one am on a 1mb line not 4, but even 4 people like me and others have this line for the additional accounts we use so digichilli connects on this line and it is not my job or any of the other users to shape, throttle our own connections to be NICE. Whos going to do that seriously. Uncapped as its been on the other service providers has been full speed after hours and throttled during business hours, visit www.axxess.co.za and view a demo of how the rolling cap works, and see even then full speed after hours. Digichilli said nothing about if you download 24/7 then its abuse, in fact on their site, they say and do i quote:
"No rolling windows? go for it. We understand downloads."

So will we get banned for downloading 24/7 or throttled to 1 k/sec again? i think please clarify.
