Thanks for the update. :) Yes, when the MyConnection PC program shows that it cannot perform the VoIP test, then I cannot get into Secondlife. It's the UDP that's not working anymore and the dropping of packets...

i even tried some command line switches wen running SL "--noaudio --nosound --novoice" and to watch where and wen everything goes bad "--console TRUE"and still the same thing. Authentication for voice needs to go through either way.

Dont ask where i got the command lines from ;) !!!

Secondlife uses the UDP for the images. :)

UDP is an initialism for Usergram Data Protocol

UDP is the unreliable cousin of TCP on TCP/IP networks. UDP does not guarantee delivery, or reliability, and because of this it is ideal for services such as video streaming. For a service such as video streaming, reliability and guarantee of delivery are not the highest concern; instead it is only important that the video is transmitted from the server to all the clients, without a care for 'expired' packets. What seperates the two protocols is that TCP requires the client to inform the server that it received all of the packets sent, and also to re-request packets that arrived corrupted or did not arrive at all. As a result of this there is additional overhead for TCP when comparing TCP to UDP, and it is this lack of additional overhead (combined with other factors) that makes UDP superior to TCP in streaming scenarios.
Second Life and UDP

Second Life uses UDP the primary mode of communicating small bits of real-time data between viewers and simulators (e.g. keystrokes and object updates). See Protocol for more information about how this works.

Secondlife uses the UDP for the images. :)

If it were only for the images Snowglobe would log into SL cos snowglobe uses http for texture delivery instead of UDP. thats one factor that makes snowglobe a better viewer than the default SL viewer, more reliable texture delivery.

But sweet, good reading. Most realtime dependant apps utilise UDP if reliability is not a major factor.

That's what so many forget. There's a whole world out there waiting to buy your 3D related products/sounds/art/animations.

We can eliminate poverty, by becoming one of the 3D powerhouses of the world.

When you create something and then sell it over and over again, without having to manufacture it ever again and the selling is automatic...you are on your way to success.

Uncapped, at a low rate, will unleash SA's creativity.

On my spanking, brand new downgraded line (4Mb to 384KB) I basically experience the net as Dave described it on the 29/12/2009 morning update. That applies to the browsing, normal download, download with a download manager and email.
I get full speed with download manager and between 12.5KB and 30KB without download manager. On that front it is pretty much what DG promises.
I don't do news servers, SL, Steam or gaming.

Thx Chilli.

Hehehehe! :D

I would love an update on this issue. It's still there.
11h00 DigiChilli update December 22 2009

We still have an outstanding upstream issue. We're dropping a large % of international traffic when it hits London.

This is having huge backup and retransmit issues. It is being still being addressed.

Sad, but I believe I've been targeted...30 hours and cannot auth, that says it all. I only used this service for browsing and http downloads, no NNTP or gaming, so when Dave says the sysadmin has an issue, I'd like to know what exactly the issue is.

Proff

targeted? what do you mean?

My connection died yesterday around 17:00, I have not been able to authenticate since then...I get error 691. PM'd Dave this morning, his response was that he is looking into it and that it seems the sysadmin has an issue...since 11:10 I've not heard anything from anyone at DC.

Something odd.

If one runs VisualRoute from this server... http://www.rankingtoday.com/net/visual-route.php (100% packet loss from DC and the next hop, and then the hop between London and BCS.)

...then one runs ViualRoute from this server, http://visualroute.visualware.com/ (0% packet loss from DC and the next hop, and then the hop between London and BCS has 100% loss and BCS has an average of 20-80% loss.)

There is a vast difference in results.

When one runs VisualRoute 2010 from one's own pc, then the path is free of packet loss and has a 500ms average RTT.
