DigiChilli Network Status

OK THIS IS SHOCKING,LOCAL OKISK INTERNATIONAL,NOT RESPONDING AT ALL?ANYONE ELSE?TOMORROW,IM TAKING MY MONEY BACK.

Speed problems as usual, and lots of sites not working, local and international, rebooted my router, and now i can't connect , pap autentication error. Not Happy!!!!!

Can't even connect to MSN, just keeps dropping. Have to go back to my AFRIHOST account now.

I've just received a mail from Dave and replied to him:

Http and downloading from websites is (and has been) still good, totaling 35 to 40kb/s.
Youtube now seems to be working a heck of a lot better, before it wasn't loading videos, now it is.
5FM Streams nicely. www.rockoutradio.co.za streaming still has problems though (but that could be their side). http://rhythmmusicstore.com also streams correctly.

Steam - still no go but you're looking at that.

Steam still on 0% though :p
It's seems everything outside of 'browsing' is borked..

Update: HTTP is good, get max speeds while browsing and downloading. Thats about it, can't use internet for anything else, steam is a no, gtalk a no, no gaming or torrents either. Also can't get to the DC site unless i am not on the DC connection.

Any updates on things Dave?

My gtalk and skype have never had a problem ..
Also - played a game on Sins of a Solar Empire with a friend yesterday, with skype voice chat going for about 5 hours - both worked fine..
Had an occasional 'stutter' every now and then, but extremly playable.
Haven't tried a FPS yet..

My experience so far : almost adequate.

HTTP surfing is pretty slow - too slow for everyday usage atm
email - perfect - local & overseas
skype - voip - not working, IM - fine
HTTP download - OK - quite reasonable in fact !

- so I'm gonna stick with these guys whilst they sort out the issues - the deal they are offering is great - so i.m.o. its worth hanging in and helping out.

Stuff hellkom and their gluttonous orgy.

Network Status update

The Network is 7 days old. There are still unresolved issues. The increased traffic of all the new users tipped something that wasn't apparent during testing. Upstream issues were identified and some have been resolved.

The network is not as stable as we would like yet. The issues that we had on Thursday and Friday of instability are better. We took the decision to 'shape' all traffic until we had proper stats of what was causing the initial problem so that users could use the system.

The logging and tracing has been running and we should have a better view of where the issue was originating now. Based on this analysis we can make an informed decision on how to fix it.

There are four major components to the network.

  1. Telkom leg - Customer to DSLAM to IPC - Telkom interface
  2. Radius - Our AAA Sever
  3. Core to either local SAIX or International via Neotel and Seacom.
  4. London Breakout and transit.

Managing 4 separate segments is complicated and not just an issue of logging a call with Telkom or IS. We also have to rely on three other parties to identify and rectify issues.

We are focussing on stability, speed and latency. Once the issues have been identified and fixed, torrents will be allowed. FTP will be allowed. MSN will be allowed. Gaming will be prioritised. P2P will be allowed, etc.

We have reached our initial limit of chilli clients that we could load on the network and will be putting a freeze on activating more clients for a day or so til we have more IP's and the issues remedied.

We are not about to change the existing 4 packages. The survey was to understand better what our customers want.

Thank you for all the support.

Hi Dave, just another quick question, have you guys now blocked usenet as well, i am unable to get more than 3-4k on astraweb, was getting decent speeds earlier in the week

Regards
Roland

Disconnects every 120 minutes?

I noticed today that my DC account gets disconnected at exactly 120 minute intervals. This only happens to with my DC account. My WA account that I use concurrently on the same line stays connected.

Dave, is there a reason why DC disconnects us every 2 hours?
