Digital Migration: too little, too late

What's the point when you can get the DSTV basic package for R20 odd a month?

More urgent matters!

The article is very paranoid! This is just yet another negative article that just tries to pile onto our current hatred for the SA government. Sorry to say to the journo, but we have way more important things to worry about right now, that deserves more resources than the switch from analogue to digital. :wtf:

Stop inciting more rage against the current government! We are stuck with more urgent matters!

I don’t quite understand why DVBT2 tuners weren’t incorporated into TV sets. Digital signals have been broadcast for over three years now. A lot of money could have been saved with the distribution of set top boxes. These boxes are only a transition process for people that have the old CRT TV’s. South Africa is not unique, other countries made it compulsory for the inclusion of these digital tuners, so why not South Africa. I’ve only come across a few TV’s with these tuners in my daily work.

The government deserves everything that is thrown at them. They are corrupt, don't listen to their voters and they squander our hard earned money!

Fear mongering. The deadline means absolutely nothing unless you want it to. Those airwaves will just not be used for broadband for a couple more years. The biggest obstacle is actually Icasa not having decided what to do with those frequencies yet so even if they were to be switched off now they would be useless.

Digital migration should have been done and over with years ago. The government is hated by educated people because the government is useless and corrupt human beings. This digital migration issue just proves once again how utter rubbish they are at actually doing what they are paid to do.

Simply because the government is a thousand times worse with many other important issues, doesn't make this failure any less newsworthy.

Not everyone has a dish installed. Besides, if everyone did have a dish, Openview would be a much better choice than DSTV basic.

OpenView could work out cheaper than these set top boxes.

More misspent money for the SABC
Instead of talking to Multichoice and working together
Most of the channels are already on a Multichoice decoder so why would you want another set top box
Another corrupt tender in the making

I think the point of "this fear-mongering" article is about the government's failure once again to decide and implement the strategy. Same as the Eskom debacle and broadband spectrum bull****.

Maybe they want issues so that generations won't be watched so that the anc can build their next generation of sheeple voter base(just trying to find valid reasons for government's ineptitude). No tv=babies

That's one of the reasons they want conditional access.

Have a look how much these Chinese boxes cost: http://www.alibaba.com/countrysearch/CN/dvb--t2.html
