Digital Migration: too little, too late

The article is very paranoid! This is just yet another negative article that just tries to pile onto our current hatred for the SA government. Sorry to say to the journo, but we have way more important things to worry about right now, that deserves more resources than the switch from analogue to digital. :wtf:

Stop inciting more rage against the current government! We are stuck with more urgent matters!

Considering the minister himself said on Thursday that the effect of the digital divide is worse than apartheid, the author was actually quite soft on the government.

I sure hope that the quality of the DVB-T2 channels currently being broadcast won't be the final product...
Bitrates are faaarrr too low to be acceptable. A blocky mess and metallic audio. Yayy :(

Digital broadcasting is just another way to enforce collection of moneys. The signal can only be decrypted if you have a key, and I guess you only get the key when your account is paid - pretty much like DSTV (without knowing really much about the tech behind this).

I would actually prefer them moving to digital, so that I can stop paying this stupid TV license. I tried to get my account cancelled a number of times, but to be honest, it's just easier paying the license each year. If you wonder - I don't own a TV anymore and I also got rid of DSTV. All my content is now streamed from the Internet.

So - if they go digital, I don't have to pay anymore and they can happily keep their encrypted signals.

My only gripe now would be that such valuable spectrum is wasted on all that junk!

Not everyone has a dish installed. Besides, if everyone did have a dish, Openview would be a much better choice than DSTV basic.

Every squatter camp I drive past it seems like half the shacks have a satellite dish installed.

If you don't have a tv any more then why are you paying?

Nope the prices. Somebody will pocket a fortune in this whole deal.

Alibaba is full of clowns. I saw a 11" Windows tablet there for $80 with a I7 CPU and a 128GB SSD. They don't accept Paypal, only money transfers and so. That already says a lot. But there are good deals on Alibaba, must just find good sellers.

They probably are unable to comprehend that he doesn't have a TV anymore and keep harassing him for a license. There have been enough stories of them trying to harass dead people. They are dysfunctional just like anything else the ANC and its cadres touch.

Yup, that I know. It seems if you're on their system once you can't get rid of them like Readers Digest. If they were to ever harass me I'll just ignore them. They have no legal recourse if you don't have a tv.
