Buying PC components online is relatively new in SA, exceptionally convienant for someone who doesn't have time to pysically shop around for one. So it was convieniant for me to order a 250 GB HDD from Digital Planet. The order went through with out a hassle. I wanted the HDD delivered so i gave all the necessary info and was told via e-mail the delivery would take place in 5-7 days.

A week later i called to find out what was going on with my delivery. I was told it had been placed on back order (they had made no effort to contact me and tell me) and would only be available on the 31st of december and i would be contacted then for delivery, i had ordered around the 6th, this was exceptionally inconvienant as i would be away on holiday. Anyway the 31st came and went, nothing happened. As soon as i got back i contacted them and asked what was going on. In the next three days is was told. Not surprisingly that day passed. On my final call i was told that their suppliers didn't actually have any stock. fed up i then cancelled the order, they have said they will refund me.

so much for convenience.

My only experience with Digital Planet:

Recently News24 held a competition where one could win Sentech services. It was stated on the News24 website that simply for entering (i.e. providing your contact details so you can be spammed) you would receive a 10% discount vouncher (via email) for Digital Planet.

Needless to say, I entered and did not received promised digital voucher from Digital Planet. So I entered again under a different name and email address, just to see if promised voucher arrived.

However, instead of 10% discount voucher, I received a "R30 off" voucher.

try www.ngrcomputers.co.za as i ordered a AMD64 CPU from them and within a week from payment it was in my hands.

all along the ordering process i was receiving updates via email and all my queries were handled within the hour.

excellent service and i wont hesitate to shop from them again. :)

I use digitalplanet ever so often. But I always phone after the order to find out what is going on. If it sounds like I'll have to wait too long I just cancel.

I've used DP a few times, and generally thigns went smoothly, even though there were stock issues.

HAVING SAID THAT thier site is attrocious, buggy, slow and difficult to use. If I'm ordering for delivery, Kalahari is reasonable I use them often. If it's for collection, I'll use Take2 because they're up the road from me, but their service is abismal.

Never had problems wif DP - I've ordered from them 4 times.
My latest order they don't have any stock of, and they contacted me to say so.
No - I don't work for them.

it is not just digital planet ... I ordered an ipod nano from one of the apple online shops (wasn't the zastore, another popular one can't remember the name), couple of days later I phoned to ask what is happening and they told me there is no stock, which on the site it was clearly saying "in stock" when I ordered! WTF! All SA online retailers are next to crap, but who cares when everybody is happy with that crap!

DP site is by far the worst I have ever seen! I think they did this site as a school project for 1st grade or something! It is pathetic! I have complained about it but they just ignore me!

Have you tried searching that so called site! You type the exact product code for the whatever you are looking and you are presented with 5-10 pages absolutely irrelevant junk! WTF!

there is a long way to go for SA retailers to get even close to become usable and conveninent!

agreed about the site it must be the must confusing site I have ever shopped on. Kalahari is normally quite good been using them for years and no problems yet.

I only order from take2.co.za or prophecy ive only ordered once from prophecy on take2 a lot of times and ive never had problems from them but i tried kalahari once and i got the worst service ever so im never ordering from them again

I've ordered a MS Ergo 4000 Keyboard from DP - most happy with their service, however it did take a bit to get hold of them, and eventually sent them a message for them to contact me. they did call, and everything went smoothly from there-on.

having read the other posts - its impossible to keep everybody happy. I would still recommend DP

As for Sybaritic - i'm STILL waiting for a reply of numerous emails - SLACK!

I enquired Take2 on the weekend to send me more info about these two products :

ASUS Nivdia Geforce 6800XT - 128MB (TV+DVI+Dual VGA) - AGP8x
ASUS Nivdia Geforce 6800LE - 128MB - (TV+DVI+Dual VGA)-AGP8x

Checking specs on the ASUS website shows exactly the same specs for both cards. So obviously something is different on the cards.

As of yet (now Tuesday evening haven't heard even the slightest reply, mind you also on another supplier site as well...)

moklet, are you connected with http://www.smesolutions.co.za? It doesn't seem to sell hardware online so it doesn't seem to be related to this thread.

Has anyone there tested the site in Firefox or Opera? It is an appalling advert for a web design company to produce a site that only renders in IE. In Opera and FF, all pages are full of &nbsp strings, and the 'pricing' page has serious table overflow problems.

I've bought successfully from Jump. Service was good and delivery was snappy.

I've bought from once or twice, but I had a bad run with them while ordering some ink cartridges.. the usual back order story, with nobody contacting you, and having a hell of a time trying to find out what's wrong... and then the order being ready for two weeks, but then failling to contact me to go collect. As an apology they delivered to me instead tho, and gave me a discount voucher - which I never used.

I've bought stuff from PCMall as well which was fine. Just took a bit of time to get my 19" crt from them - they had supplier issues. The other orders I made were delivered timeously.
