Digital terrestrial television

Yay! Instead of having nothing to watch on Analog TV... I will have nothing to watch on Digital TV! :)

I thought that the introduction to DTT would start from November this year?

It is live in Jburg all ready. A picked up a test signal with SABC 123 and Etv a couple of years ago all ready. www.sadiba.co.za. Click on pilots and there is a link to the current coverage map.

Quality? Higher resolution? So it will not benefit the LCD TV owners now when we switch over to DTT because we will get the same low resolution signals?

nothing too ground breaking. It is not HD just a SD digital signal.

Just a normal dvb-t digital tv receiver/usb dongle. There used to be guy selling them on bid-or-buy. But honestly there is nothing on there atm or I doubt even in future warranting purchasing a receiver. The extra spectrum will probably just be used for community channels etc not HDTV. Our best bet for HDTV is DSTV I think.

Dish / decoder required?

Yes, you need a TV with a DVB-T tuner, or alternatively a DVB-T card for your PC (more common in ZA at the moment, since no one knows whether the official decoders will require a conditional access module to enforce payment of TV licenses). The receiver will likely require a special aerial (not arial!) since the DVB-T signal is not well received by the standard aerials.

I saw some Satellite dish+decoder for you PC thingie online for R500. Can watch free satellite channels....Which one do we suppose to use, DVB-T or DVB-S?
