Digital TV uncertainty

OK- digital TV it is then.

if you use a digital tv tuner in your pc, then you don't need a set top box, right?

This is an opportunity (any excuse is good enough) to buy some more toys and see how they work. Looking forward to a PC PVR.

Any recommendation of suitable add-in cards?

I can see how this will pan out... you'll have to pay a fee for the DTT, and you'll have to pay SABC a TV license... except now SABC can switch those who only watch ETV or DSTV off...

As someone else suggested, the FTA channels( SABC and etv) will be provided without encryption any additional channels will be encrypted and you'd need a smartcard to view them. The guys watching with tv cards probably won't be able to watch any of the new channels when they eventually launch/

It was suggested? It was also suggested that E-TV be a station for those who don't want to watch SABC, but I still have to pay for the TV License...

Actually, I got rid of my Antenna ages ago... no more license... nor more crap on TV... I now hire/buy DVDs to watch. But even that i hardly do.
