Dion Wired stores today - Photos

The shelves at several Dion Wired stores across Gauteng are standing near-empty.

This follows Massmart, which owns Dion Wired, announcing on 13 January that it had started consultations with workers' unions over possible retrenchments at the company - and that it may close the chain completely.

Who gives a flying freak we all panicking about corona

MyBroadband asked Massmart for comment on the matter, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.

Many articles capture this self-same paragraph. Given the number, how many minutes are they what is the usual lead time allowed for comment?

Well they did say they were closing them down. I wouldn't expect to see fully stocked shelves.

It depends on the article. When it is network downtime, for example, the lead time is not much (we add the comment later). For other articles it varies depending on the article.

Many companies/government institutions never comment. In other cases it can be used a strategy to try to delay or dismiss the article. It can even be that the company simply has nothing to say.

To only allow publications to publish a story when they receive comment will be disastrous. Companies, the government and people will simply never comment on potentially negative articles to bury the story.

And you usually also do a follow up article if there is a response or change in situation.

Sadly there are going to be many more store closures if the coronavirus starts spreading in SA. Customers will be staying away from large airconditioned shopping malls which could potentially spread the virus to everybody.

The stores probably have the same amount of customers as before the issues started. Was never more than 5 at any given time anyway

With staff in groups around the shop too busy to give a **** about customers....
Wonder how AA is doing for Massmart?

I am kind of surprised that there hasn't been a clearout sale of some sort to try and get rid of the dead stock, I guess their just going to move the stock to Game or Makro which is a bit of a letdown, but then again Dion Wired has never been consumer focused hence the predicament their in lol
