Hey to all, I would like to install DX 10 on windows XP and after looking for somewhere to download it I realised that there are some compatibility issues with DX 10 and XP.

So my question is, can I get DX10 working on XP and if so where can I download the offline installer package?

More things you may need to awnser my question:
•I am using a Nvidia Chaintech 8600gt graphics card
•I am using Windows XP with service pack 3
•My Windows is a genuine copy

Thanx for suggestions in advance :D

Well firstly dx 10 and 8600gt should not be in the same sentence.

Secondly dx 10 does not exist for xp.

There was a site way back that could get DirectX10 emulated under Windows XP, but because of Microsoft's awesome corporate culture the site was shut down. Then again, the performance wasn't very good under Windows XP because, well, it wasn't designed to incorporate DirectX10. Your only choice now is to use Windows Vista I'm afraid.

And is highly overrated at the moment IMHO..

I dunno man check out crysis warhead and then come tell me the same thing.

Dx is still in its infancy and the more developers start using using the better it will become.

Look at dx 9, the first games compared to the games now.

Thanx for all the replies, I think I'm gonna put back my old XFX 7600gt because I'd rather do that then switch to Vista, in fact I'd rather start using a Pentium 3 than switch to Vista.

LOL, i feel your pain, but the 8600 works with DX9 and XP, so why?

Not dissing you, just saying one game running well on DX10 does not justify upping your rig and switching to :sick:Vista:sick:, perhaps later on when more games support DX10 only, then perhaps, yes.

your not dissing me, i use and love vista so dx 10 is just a bonus really.

Will never go back to boring old xp and all its kuk.

Ja, sooner or later I will have to start “enjoying” Vista, it’s just the way of the world, but god I hope there is a way of getting rid of those infernal pop ups, and having to tell the stupid OS that, yes I am sure I want to open the document, and yes please allow it to open, and yes please MS can my application that I already said yes I want to open please please have access to the net…..eish. :D

See the thing is DDV you have not taken the time to even get to know vista because if you had you would know that is as simple as going into your user account and turning it off, it then runs just like xp.

See the problem is people right vista off before getting to know its workings. No offense meant :)

Nope, none taken, that’s exactly what I did. I’m sure there are ways of tweaking it, but seriously XP does all I need it to do at the moment so there is no need for me to hassle with it. My machines are more than capable running the OS, there is just no need ATM, I also do a lot of XPE so I like keeping my OS on XP as well. BUT you are right, I’m sure it’s not really any worse than XP. :D

It's not, i mean if your happy than cool but i love new microsoft Os's, Xp is old and boring :)

vista looks nice and runs well. All to their own i say :)

Yes true, but I have most of the “look” Vista users are so fond of running in XP, what does Vista do that XP doesn’t, there must be something?

Cannot really tell you, its just alot more stable, i never get that system not responding BS, programs 99% of the time respond and if they don't vista shuts them down easily without have to reboot or struggle to close em. I used to get alot of not responding on xp i never get it on vista.

Vista does not slow down either, if you have been using it for 6 months it still feels as fast as the day you installed, as we know xp gets slower and slower month after month and most people will recommend a clean install of xp every 4-6 months because it becomes so damn slow.

Thing about vista is when you use it, you'll either love it or hate it, when you love it though xp will never be reloaded.

Also what i like about vista is 64 bit is supported well and the nice thing is you don;t have a virus problem on 64 bit for some reason.

Vista does not do anything more than xp, it just does it better i find.

Solid and stable, looks awesome and for me vista runs far smoother than xp on my rig plus it does not get slower :). Sure it had some teething problems but so did xp but now its a solid stable awesome OS :)

.

Yes I can see how that will come in very handy, so no BSOD on Vista?

The only BSODs i've had on vista is when trying to copy a dodgy dvd on dvdshrink, cyclic redundancy ***
