Download DirectX 10 for Windows XP is available now. You can download it ( Directx 10 for XP ) as the alpha version is said to be working by some users. It is said to work for Windows XP and with directx 10 games and graphics card, they should be able to play directx 10 compatible games like they play in Microsoft’s Windows Vista.

This download can increase hardware compatibility even on Vista, by compiling Geometry Shaders down to native machine code for execution where hardware isn’t capable of running it .

Cody Brocious, Lead Alky Engineer have released a DirectX 10 Alky preview which can be used with DX10 SDK.

You can download the files from our Download Center ( Click to download )

* Alky Source Code (LGPL)Download
* Philosopher Code (LGPL - Needed by Alky) Download
* Alky for Applications 1.0 Compatibility Halo 2 for windows xp nfo
* Shadowrun for Windows XP Info

It's been available since ... Last year sometime as far as I can remember.

But what I need to see before I try this is a review of a DX10 game in DX10 Vista vs DX10 XP - Should be rather interesting.

but...but...but....but...i was let to believe otherwise

by this VERY forum!!!

Well...
There never was, never will be and should never be DX10 for XP. For the same reason DX9 doesn't exist for Windows 3.1X
XP and DX9 are long past their due dates and it's time for something much better :)

Thats the problem you see. While there should in theory never be a DX10 for XP (as this will slow down technological advancing or whatever you want to call it), it doesn't mean there Couldn't be a DX10 for XP. :D ShockG knows that should there be a DX10 for XP, then people would not have an incentive to move to Vista and thus stay with XP - a Very old OS by now. But that whole story is open for discussion . . . .

After Microsoft promised that it cannot be done. I'd be keen to see some performance test though, cause something tells me this is going to be slower than the vista implementation.

We aim to confuse.:D

Another sign of the non-event Vista has been?

EDIT: Ah so it isn't an official MS project?

Why does this thing keep coming up on this forum I think this is the third thread.

THERE CANNOT BE DX10 ON WINDOWS XP!
let it be people, the Alky project isn't anything useful at all. If Windows could support DX10 the service pack to allow that would be the size of the operating system itself.
It's a futile project and an even less useful download.

As ShockG said, DX10 cannot be run on XP. When most people say DX they think of Direct3D, which is responsible for the graphics, and they forget about the other parts of DirectX.

Those guys at Falling Leaf went out of business because they realised in the end that what they were trying to do was impossible with rewriting the entire XP Kernel. That in a small nutshell is what Microsoft did for Vista, and without that, DX10 can never run on XP.

There goes the Microsoft machine.... Untill they stop support for XP will continue to use it, as for DX10, It still have some flaw's one being performace decreases for the hardware avalible, I guess DX9 was like that for a while aswell?
